THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Fred1new - 05 Oct 2012 20:44 - 18574 of 81564

I didn't know Abu Hamza had a jail.

I can see headlines

"Property owner thrown out of Britain."

================

Personally. I prefer the sentiment of the following which I read numerous times as a child :-

Abou Ben Adhem

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still, and said "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.

By Leigh Hunt.

Seems almost an antipathy to Tank's obvious humility.

PS,

I am an atheist, but the symbolism appealed to me!

Can they plug the coalition in?

TANKER - 08 Oct 2012 15:37 - 18581 of 81564

the bastard as still not told them where that little girl is .

Stan - 08 Oct 2012 16:01 - 18582 of 81564

Language please.

Fred1new - 08 Oct 2012 16:54 - 18583 of 81564

Stan,

Sorry didn't realise coalition was so offensive!

greekman - 08 Oct 2012 17:17 - 18584 of 81564

Not sure if it was Labour who coined the slogan 'Empty Promises' referring to the Conservatives or visa versa, but after listening to Cameron latest spiel I have just joined the UKIP party.
After reading their (UKIPs) manifesto, it contains just about everything that most people would agree with.
I am not nieve enough to believe any politicians promises, but if they stand by just one, IE giving us a referendum on Europe, (a simple in or out) then that will do for me.
I do though think that they will at least attempt to carry their other policies forward.
Their only chance in an election is to become part of a coalition, with Nigel Farage stating that a referendum promise must be 'signed in blood' prior to agreeing a coalition tie up with any other party.
Cameron, be warned, you have about as much backbone as a jelly fish and just listening to you at the Conservative conference going on about ring fencing foreign aid to me says it all.
Funny how nearly all the big promises have a start date of 2015, IE after the next election.
He must think we are all idiots!

Stan - 08 Oct 2012 18:42 - 18585 of 81564

"Stan,

Sorry didn't realise coalition was so offensive!" Fred, With some of the nonsense coming out of Osborne's mouth, It's hard to take him seriously now.

Fred1new - 08 Oct 2012 18:55 - 18586 of 81564

Wait for next week's U-turn before condemning him.

On the other hand why wait, shoot him now!
