One other thought.
Had Asda walked away, then this has a bearing on the sp and would require an RNS. If however it is simply opening it up as a free for all, then no RNS is required until any sort of contract is signed.
No RNS.

spoke to tony ruane last week and he said trials are onging and asda were keen to adopt GS

hewittalan6 - 08 Aug 2006 12:59 - 18573 of 27111

Just read it again and it makes 2 references to Asda wanting Greenseal. One speaks of working with Asda and the other talks about Asdas future plans involving Greenseal.
Doesn't strike me as Asda walking away.
Strikes me as a positive move.

Alan,

Re your take on the Greenseal update. I read it exactly the same as you.
I just hope we are both right.
It's a pity that SEO can't just come out with a plain clearly explained update that takes away all doubt.

oblomov - 08 Aug 2006 13:07 - 18575 of 27111

To follow - editing probs!!

hewittalan6 - 08 Aug 2006 13:09 - 18576 of 27111

I think they will, Greek.
I am very looking forward to the weekend now, to ask my imaginary friend what exactly was discussed at the conference regarding packaging (if anything), cos the timings seem a little co-incidental.
I will of course, let you all know what is said (if anything). Those of you who believe it to be voices in an unhinged head may choose to ignore those posts.

Oblo,
The word accelerate is also used. Can't find a negative, but I will keep trying. i am sure a few out there will help me look!!

'ASDA have agreed to waive the exclusivity, which will then offer GreenSeal to non exclusive sites.'

So, there are EXCLUSIVE sites. So what has been/is the problem with conversions at the exclusive sites - why can deals not be signed for the exclusive sites?

Badly worded and ambiguous again. DO they ever make a statement which doesn't result in endless debate over what exactly the statement means - do they do this on purpose?

hewittalan6 - 08 Aug 2006 13:14 - 18579 of 27111

Bit of conjecture again.
What if the Greenseal machines were already in the exclusive sites. that is how the trials were performed and why some people found Greenseal packaging in their local Asda.
The trials have progressed nicely, but the delay has been due to non-exclusive sites pointing out the problems we have postulated today?
Alan

bosley - 08 Aug 2006 13:19 - 18580 of 27111

oblo, if they did that, then they would have no get out clause. personally, i think it's make or break time for seo. now let's see if greenseal is all it's made out to be. it's now open to all. there should be no need for further trials and there should be new deals announced very soon ............ that's if greenseal is actually worth having ........

oblomov - 08 Aug 2006 13:21 - 18581 of 27111

Alan,

Then what was to stop the exclusive sites going commercial?

Exclusive sites surely would have to do what ASDA told them to, within reason.

Dont forget, we were told at the time of the AGM that this would go commercial in 8 weeks - which wasn't up that long ago.

So, looking on the bright side, is a 'gone commercial at exclusive sites' announcement imminent?

oblomov - 08 Aug 2006 13:24 - 18582 of 27111

Bos - 'there should be no need for further trials',

I'd love to say I agree, but don't you think the likes of Sainsbury's, Tesco's etc would want to do their own trials? What kind of confusion would that present to the packhouses - unless the other major supermarkets also have exclusive sites, which is likely I guess.

dawall - 08 Aug 2006 13:27 - 18583 of 27111

What really matters here, is how many machines are to be installed and when. Still no update on this. What does accelerate the roll out mean, accelerate if from what?

Also what trials are STILL ongoing after 18 months?

Can feel another e-mail to SEO coming on!

bosley - 08 Aug 2006 13:30 - 18584 of 27111

oblo, there has been 18+ months of extensive trials for asda. what more do they need to trial? the best hope is that seo go back to the original plan of dealing with packers, that they now sign up to greenseal. it simplifies everything. but then again, a giant like asda couldn't force it on the packers. there definately are two ways of viewing this news, (isn't there always with seo!!!). interesting to see what happens next.

Snip - 08 Aug 2006 13:41 - 18585 of 27111

wow 18584 postings

you lot can talk for England

oblomov - 08 Aug 2006 13:44 - 18586 of 27111

Bos, 'there definately are two ways of viewing this news'

We agree on that (!) , which is where I came in -

Badly worded and ambiguous again. DO they ever make a statement which doesn't result in endless debate over what exactly the statement means - do they do this on purpose?

hewittalan6 - 08 Aug 2006 13:53 - 18587 of 27111

But, (and you know I love to disagree), the statement does say it is done so that rollout can be accelerated. I see no other way of reading this other than the exclusivity was proving a hinderence to rollout, and its removal benefits both Asda and SEO.
It says nothing about further trials or packagers not liking it!!

BKK2 - 08 Aug 2006 13:59 - 18588 of 27111

oblo,

Reckon you could well be right,The management could well want to put a positive slant on the news, rarther than let it being seen only in a negitive way, which indeed there is a positive side,as the song goes ALL WAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE.

I'll consider myself outvoted, then.
But I still feel fairly bullish about this news.

NS - 08 Aug 2006 14:08 - 18590 of 27111

I'm with you Alan, i see this as positive news.
But yet again a Stanelco statement leads to confusion!
