As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).
For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version
except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.
As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.
NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.
The new version can be found on the following link:
http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php
NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.
Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile
Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

For some reason in the morning the T.Vol column doesn't clear entirely the previous day's trades. I think it's the final trade which still remains reported in the column
cheers

Thanks for improving the Note pop-up window, George - its fine for me now. On the Watch List the 'click to resize' on the Note column works fine but then the column width reverts to the original size on a screen refresh. Is there any chance of keeping the column width on its wider setting having adjusted it? Thanks. Peter

Using the sort function on the B/S/? % column works better than in Java but still seems to result in a random result for some shares.

pbridle: When we move out of beta, we will add new functionality to the user interface and this will probably be included, but for now we have just replicated what is in the Java version. The Java version also reverts the column size on refresh.
Regarding sorting of B/S/? %, it seems to sort ok in my tests, sorting on each of the B S and ? in order. Have you got an example of where is has sorted badly? Is it the same problem in ascending and descending order? If you can give me a stock code I'll add it to my list to check.
Thanks

One suggestion - maybe have tabs for selecting the watchlists rather than the drop down control.

Mo: Thanks for the suggestion. All design options will be considered. Some people have many lists though so tabs would probably not be suitable.

Just found and love it, clicking the "Mid, mid change and %change" buttons filters biggest gains or fallers in order. B, great thanks chaps.

Works fairly well for me (using Chrome) and doesn't seem to be prone to crashing as the java version was (and still is).

Not sure if bug already reported:
Stocks that havent had any trades during the day, repeat the T.Time, T.Vol, T.Price values from prior day in the html version. In Java those columns are blank (as they should be). An example today would be CAPD or CSSG

George, I agree with dell314, reading names in capital letters is more difficult than upper and lower case as in the Java version and hope you will be able to change this.
The N icon link to news is at the extreme left of the page and less easily seen when looking down the page. It stands out much better just left of the Epic code as in the Java version.
The editing facility put at the top of the page makes it much easier and quicker to add or delete Epic codes and to change from one list to another.
The new HTML5 version opens up much quicker than the Java version even on my old PC, although this has necessitated a move from Opera 12.16 browser to Chrome to take maximum advantage of this.

phd: Thanks. Yes, that was reported last night. It does show the valid last trade (which is what it is supposed to do) but the Java version hides it if that was on a previous day. We will probably do the same in the new version to avoid confusion.

Liking the Beta Version - the only problem I'm having is that when I use the function to delete a Stock from my watch-list it doesn't work (ie: the Stock isn't deleted!)

Great improvement both visually and performance, particularly via Google Chrome. The Java problem plagued me for a while when I tried to access via IE10.

Renodci: The problem you saw was not caused by the stockwatch, it was caused by a slow database this afternoon. You would have seen the same problem if you were using the Java version.

I can finally view my Stockwatch on a Blackberry Playbook tablet using this !! - well done and potentially great to not need Java plugin and the associated hassles

Seems to be functionally OK in IE9, but all my notes have disappeared ??
Update: In Safari on my iPad my notes are visible, but in IE9, all it says where the note should be is 'Add Note'
Update
hmm, just reloaded the page and the notes are visible now...
Update
....notes have disappeared again....?!?
