for goodness sake, stay away from this share ...... i have a nasty feeling it will not survive

required field - 05 Nov 2008 13:09 - 187 of 544

Plenty of others to choose from and there is is a very big risk with this next well that they are drilling !.

dealerdear - 05 Nov 2008 13:48 - 188 of 544

You sound like the critical parent cynic!

;-)

cynic - 05 Nov 2008 14:09 - 189 of 544

sometimes one needs to treat some of the friends here as children

Big Al - 05 Nov 2008 15:35 - 190 of 544

I'm perfectly happy buying EO. at today's prices. ;-)))

cynic - 05 Nov 2008 16:19 - 191 of 544

brave boy

Big Al - 05 Nov 2008 16:26 - 192 of 544

Brave, stupid. You never know, cynic, but you gotta be in it to win it as they say.

cynic - 05 Nov 2008 16:51 - 193 of 544

i know the possible disaster scenario for EO. ...... is your reckoning purely that at this price the odds of EO. coming up with something juicy are pretty short, or do you have some other thoughts? ...... if the former, why are the odds any shorter than for say EME or ELP (even!)

Big Al - 05 Nov 2008 17:38 - 194 of 544

cynic

The main reason is Breagh and I discount, to a certain extent, the apparent failure of Esmond.

Breagh is a pretty good producer (as opposed to EME's meagre offerings thus far) and EO. have a sizeable stake. The UK needs all the gas it can get and I work in that region. The gas spot market is highly volatile as the UK is a net importer for the first time in 40 years - the southern gas sector will offer very high returns for some time to come IMO.

As for gas storage, to me it's only a plus. I don't see huge upside by getting into the side of it, although I could be wrong. As such, I see the past couple of days' hit as being very far overdone.

Additionally, I think this outfit has very good management with an excellent track record, albeit they play on the Buzzard thing a bit too much. Buzzard was massive at the time - I know because I was there and EDG did unbelievably well out of it.

At the end of the day, it's a punt as with all exploration outfits, but this lot offer so much more than others IMO. I'm prepared to stick around for some time and quite prepared to lose all I've put in. If they double I'll no doubt be gone, but I picked them last year and saw them more than triple. I feel there's a good chance they'll do so again.

On EME, I see the latest news didn't last long, but then you and I agree that's a red herring. ;-)))

cynic - 05 Nov 2008 17:42 - 195 of 544

i thought you must have more logic that just backing the odds! ...... with Dow heading sharply south tonight (no surprise there), i guess there's good chance of EO. also falling away a bit more tomorrow, so may well follow your reasoning.

by the way, do you have any views on HAWK?

Big Al - 05 Nov 2008 17:45 - 196 of 544

Never looked at them really, but might find the time.

cynic - 06 Nov 2008 08:18 - 197 of 544

interestingly, IG looks to be pretty much "limit up" on long buying, so had to get permission from the Pope to acquire ...... sounds like many agree with your view Al

required field - 06 Nov 2008 09:07 - 198 of 544

Careful ! one ought to be : EK has dumped this....."on lower expectations" !.

Big Al - 06 Nov 2008 09:13 - 199 of 544

We can be either right or wrong, cyninc. ;-0

cynic - 06 Nov 2008 09:16 - 200 of 544

RF .... at worst, the downside is the whole of my smallish investment, but as AL points out in his knowledgeable post, the upside is potentially significant

required field - 06 Nov 2008 09:16 - 201 of 544

One of the biggest problems with small speculative stocks is : "the promising acreages", they can have loads of different propositions for drilling but the bottom line is : what is down there ?, this has bits and pieces all over the place....drilling all this will cost a packet...could be further drops for the sp to come !.

Big Al - 06 Nov 2008 09:24 - 202 of 544

rf - you are not wrong. You need some exposure to high risk stuff, though. I just think this one has less risk than others after this fall.

required field - 07 Nov 2008 08:38 - 203 of 544

Big Al.....this will at some stage rebound but from where....sp might slide below 10p....by the way....I have lots of risky small oilies...check out PTR....progress being made and sp on the recovery !.

required field - 07 Nov 2008 09:03 - 204 of 544

Euhhh !, was it something I said ?, sp on the slide again !.

Big Al - 07 Nov 2008 09:07 - 205 of 544

rf - please keep quiet in future! ;-)))))
