FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

He is just boasting again!

with no buggery, there would be an empty hole in my life :-))

Couple of successful trades on the CAC today .

As yet the FTSE doesn't want to get dragged along with the DOW

cynic - 09 Nov 2015 14:47 - 18839 of 21973

DOW
just opened a small long at 17780 ...... fingers x'ed but am in front of the screen

cynic - 09 Nov 2015 16:30 - 18840 of 21973

both ftse and dow being very rude indeed :-(
never mind; i'll just sit tight

jimmy b - 09 Nov 2015 16:32 - 18841 of 21973

May see a bounce tomorrow .

cynic - 09 Nov 2015 16:48 - 18842 of 21973

i don't think it's any more than a correction .... after all, we've had a pretty decent run of late

Claret Dragon - 10 Nov 2015 06:21 - 18843 of 21973

Still holding mY short position from start of month on both FTSE and DOW.

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 08:38 - 18844 of 21973

pretty brave .... as far as i can see, that means you're out of the money on dow but a similar number in the money on ftse - and that's after yesterday's bloodbath

jimmy b - 10 Nov 2015 09:41 - 18845 of 21973

Where are we going today ?

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 09:51 - 18846 of 21973

looking southwards with some impetus as it stands .... not at all what looked likely first thing

jimmy b - 10 Nov 2015 09:59 - 18847 of 21973

I'm not for shorting right now may have missed that opportunity yesterday and this morning . This could bounce as quick as it went down .

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 10:05 - 18848 of 21973

quite funny yesterday evening ...... i opened another small dow long at 17,680 and then smacked myself when i accidentally closed it 30 points higher a bit later ..... though early (as it happens), would have been very much crosser had i held it until now :-)

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 11:49 - 18849 of 21973

got distracted by an interesting project so missed the jump on DOW
whether or not i'ld have had the balls anyway to buy at the low levels is another matter

Claret Dragon - 10 Nov 2015 12:33 - 18850 of 21973

Took a bit of pain last week. Now comfortably in clover with stop in place to protect what I have.

jimmy b - 10 Nov 2015 16:10 - 18851 of 21973

Up and down like a brides nightie today.

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 16:12 - 18852 of 21973

but tending south

jimmy b - 10 Nov 2015 17:14 - 18853 of 21973

North :)

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 17:32 - 18854 of 21973

it is now indeed
made a very small turn on a single trade this afternoon, but actually working for a living and was too busy to concentrate just on trading

every little helps :-)

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 19:49 - 18855 of 21973

although DOW has stuttered into positive territory, it is still well below the important 17,800 mark and likewise, cash FTSE remains below 6,300

in conclusion, don't get too excited, but watch carefully for what happens next
