rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

it is now indeed
made a very small turn on a single trade this afternoon, but actually working for a living and was too busy to concentrate just on trading
every little helps :-)

although DOW has stuttered into positive territory, it is still well below the important 17,800 mark and likewise, cash FTSE remains below 6,300
in conclusion, don't get too excited, but watch carefully for what happens next

FTSE - has now breached 6,300 quite comfortably and currently looks disinclined to fall back
cash DOW - has struggled up through 16,800 but it is not yet clear if there is or will be any impetus behind this

DOW
taken an early tumble .... no obvious reasons except Macy's figures were obvioulsy awful as that stock is down 13%

DOW
just made a nice turn on a long trade here, but would much rather it had stayed above 16,800 which would equally have kept FTSE above 6,300
as it is, we're back into quandary-land once more

now be careful ......
markets are turning much stronger than i expected this morning with FTSE having another crack at 6300, which it failed badly to hold last night, especially after hours

why the sudden collapse?
any reason than because the pros realised claret should be followed (by good sauternes or port)?
