FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 10 Nov 2015 19:49 - 18855 of 21973

although DOW has stuttered into positive territory, it is still well below the important 17,800 mark and likewise, cash FTSE remains below 6,300

in conclusion, don't get too excited, but watch carefully for what happens next

Chris Carson - 10 Nov 2015 20:45 - 18856 of 21973

I hear you cynic, I don't know whether to fart or faint! LOL!!!

cynic - 11 Nov 2015 09:40 - 18857 of 21973

FTSE - has now breached 6,300 quite comfortably and currently looks disinclined to fall back

cash DOW - has struggled up through 16,800 but it is not yet clear if there is or will be any impetus behind this

cynic - 11 Nov 2015 15:22 - 18858 of 21973

DOW
taken an early tumble .... no obvious reasons except Macy's figures were obvioulsy awful as that stock is down 13%

cynic - 11 Nov 2015 18:28 - 18859 of 21973

DOW
just made a nice turn on a long trade here, but would much rather it had stayed above 16,800 which would equally have kept FTSE above 6,300
as it is, we're back into quandary-land once more

Claret Dragon - 12 Nov 2015 08:12 - 18860 of 21973

Still running FTSE 100 Short from beginning of month.

cynic - 12 Nov 2015 08:37 - 18861 of 21973

now be careful ......
markets are turning much stronger than i expected this morning with FTSE having another crack at 6300, which it failed badly to hold last night, especially after hours

Claret Dragon - 12 Nov 2015 10:27 - 18862 of 21973

Protective stop moved down.

cynic - 12 Nov 2015 10:29 - 18863 of 21973

FTSE has now shifted south once more and is bouncing around the important 6250 level
keep an eye on this

jimmy b - 12 Nov 2015 10:38 - 18864 of 21973

Well done Claret ..
I have had a few FTSE trades this morning in and out . Where to go now ?

cynic - 12 Nov 2015 10:49 - 18865 of 21973

i have a small ftse long from 6248, but it's a bit nail-biting
am watching very carefully and assuredly shan't get greedy

jimmy b - 12 Nov 2015 13:46 - 18866 of 21973

Looking for bargains (stocks)

Claret Dragon - 12 Nov 2015 14:20 - 18867 of 21973

Stop moved down again.

ahoj - 12 Nov 2015 14:28 - 18868 of 21973

Low volume!
Are fast computer trades in charge of the market at the moment?

cynic - 12 Nov 2015 14:34 - 18869 of 21973

why the sudden collapse?
any reason than because the pros realised claret should be followed (by good sauternes or port)?

jimmy b - 12 Nov 2015 14:36 - 18870 of 21973

Mayhem alert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jimmy b - 12 Nov 2015 14:46 - 18871 of 21973
