U.S. stock rally continued as investors expressed optimism about corporate and economic growth after upbeat reports on employment and manufacturing, as well as a number of stock upgrades. Mind you this spike up through the resistance line on the uptrend often signals the end of the rally, as the buying becomes overheated. I am going to take out a small DOW short for a longer term target of a 250 points fall back to 10k or below and I will set a 75 point stop loss.

Wilson Bowden housebuilder said it expected results for the year to meet market expectations with profits of 215 million pounds

IMI engineering firm said its second-half sales would be around three percent higher with profits in a 136-140 million pounds range compared to 131.5 million pounds in 2002, which included a five million pounds pension credit.

RMC the world's largest producer of ready-mixed concrete, said it expects its full year profit to be at the top of the range of market expectations due to disposals and cost cutting. The company said it expects to take a 15 million pound charge in 2003 for a cost reduction programme. It plans to write down 230 million pounds of assets most of which relating to its troubled business in Germany

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2003 10:15 - 20 of 36

Any news on whether IOT has got any of the three NHS contracts being announced today?

Also, can someone explain double witching to me (being a longer term investor its not something I understand)

I think I'll close the CS. & LLOY and put everything into IOT. Thats still going up and has a way to go before I get out!

Fundamentalist - 19 Dec 2003 11:25 - 23 of 36

thanks Croc

little woman - 19 Dec 2003 13:36 - 24 of 36

Decided to sell LLOY, PTI & part of the TGM. Take some profit.

BT.A is doing well, but VOD & OOM aren't doing anything.

CAT - 19 Dec 2003 14:10 - 25 of 36

re PTI - could be a pivotal year for the company. Have a look at the website:
http://www.protherics.com
The cash-cow of t he snake stuff is cool, as is the BSE testing product, but its the angiotensin "vaccine" for hypertension which is interesting - entering Phase IIb studies in 2004...and if it works, the sky's the limit.
:-)

and the chart shows an impressive breakout, confirmed today.

Melnibone - 19 Dec 2003 15:23 - 29 of 36

Only just got back, seemed to have missed all the moves.

Spent this morning as taxi-driver and general packhorse
for Mrs. Melnibone and her Christmas shopping, then taxi-
driver again picking up Miss Melnibone from the station
as she arrived home for Christmas from university.

Don't yer just hate it when life gets in the way of trading.;-)

Melnibone.

namreh3 - 19 Dec 2003 15:41 - 30 of 36

What a dope I am. Assumed "Melnibone" was abbrev. for Melanie Bone? ie female.Just goes to show how wrong you can be even on the most fundamental level ion this world. (what a sad b****** I must be. Doh!)

namreh3 - 19 Dec 2003 15:42 - 31 of 36

All this and a typo

Melnibone - 19 Dec 2003 16:07 - 32 of 36

Hi namreh3,

Sorry if I confused you.

'Melnibone' comes from a set of classic fantasy novels
by Michael Moorcock about an albino 'Prince of Ruins'
called 'Elric of Melnibone.'

If you like the current fad of Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings',
you'll enjoy these novels.

Moorcock has been described as:

"Elric is the great original. His creator has been called
Britain's foremost master of imaginative fiction, the writer
who invented almost single-handedly, the heroic fantasy form
as the world knows it today...."

I think he's been writing these since the early 1960's.

If anyone likes the genre, check him out at your local
library, you won't be disappointed.

Melnibone.

Melnibone - 19 Dec 2003 16:24 - 33 of 36

I can't get a feel for this now. When you daytrade, I find
that you need to watch and get 'tuned in' to the rhythm
of the cycles and see if they dovetail into your plan.

It's no good coming in cold for the last 90 Minutes, I'll
just be taking a stab in the dark.
Might as well leave it and try again on Monday.

Melnibone.
