Unfortunately we have needed to restore from a backup everyone's Stockwatch lists, newswatch lists and terminal views.

The backup was from last night (midnight), so any changes that have been made since then will have been reverted.

Sorry Im not at all happy with that reply in post 19-its almost advfnish in its dismissiveness imo.Patience is not inexhaustible and these problems have been ongoing for over a week.When you have a limited time during the day to trade, its particularly galling and potentially very expensive -we all have crosses to bear and many of us like you also have services to provide and paying customers to satisfy.

I thought ADVFN were a bunch of incompetents, now you seem to be joining company with them. This site is a disgrace, your output crashes my computer, freezes my screen and will not permit me to close your site. You lay down injurious 3rd. party tracking cookies on my computer without permission. During the last two weeks for half the time that I am fool enough to access your site I am obliged to shut down and restart to get away from you. I suggest that you look for another occupation and find employment elsewhere - for sure you should not think that anyone is going to give you money, to pay your pension, for enhanced services if this is the best that you can do.

Thank you for your comments - let me assure you I understand your frustrations. I freely admit as you can see by the previous postings on this thread, w have been having a series of short outages over the past week or so.

However, the crashing of your browser, would intimate that you have a deeper problem within your system which is causing this. What browser version are you running, do you have the latest java plugin installed, what operating system are you running?

I would advise you run a windows update as soon as possible, and I would also advise that you reinstall your Java plugin to see if this helps in anyway. The website itself cannot crash your system - the way your system deals with streaming services etc could cause this.

Erm, is antiadvfn's a serious post?

These problems are frustrating, but I don't think any of us regulars here would use this site it if it crashed our computers as you suggest. Maybe you need to upgrade your computer or look elsewhere. I don't think the problems you describe are MAM's fault.

With regards to thirdparty cookies, if you're using IE _you_ have control over who and what can set cookies on your computer; please see the following URL for more information:

Further to what IanT and SC have said, if your computer is having difficulties leaving our site then it does sound like a software problem. I'd suggest uninstalling Shockwave, Flash and any other plugins that you have installed and then reinstalling them one by one to see which is causing the problem.

Actually, just for information, MoneyAM does crash my computer on occasion but I don't consider it to be MoneyAM's fault. As an ex-IT person I know this seems hard to believe so I better explain my particular circumstances:

I really can't live with Sun Java's non-anti-aliased font rendering which makes MoneyAM look so bad on my displays it's like trying to read some kind of streaming 1980s teletext. I believe this is Sun Java's fault because there's little if any anti-aliasing support in the current version of Java - although apparently this will change for the next version. So, whatever the risks I'm using IE6 with the last version of MS Java - which looks a lot nicer.

However, sometimes - though not always - when MoneyAM grinds to a halt the Terminal window freezes to the extent that it can't be closed and Task Manager reports it as a non-responding application. Manually ending the application leads to the usual error boxes but sometimes also causes (Windows) Explorer to crash, leaving XP frozen or largely unusable, and requiring a reboot. I've had this issue on three different computers during the last year so it isn't limited to some oddity on a single machine.

I'm sure it must be down to MS Java because if Sun Java behaved the same way more people would be complaining about it. That said, it's possible some people who are running older or non-updated computers may still be running MS Java so there's the possibility I'm not the only one who might encounter this.

My system's probably only brought down by MoneyAM once a month so given the upside of more easily readable streaming displays I take the risk and bear the costs!

My problem, nothing for MoneyAM to fix - just explaining that no matter how bizarre it may sound, it can be done :-)

Better yet - if you're using Firefox don't uninstall Shockwave Flash - instead download the Flashblock extension which replaces flash with a button which you can then choose to press to play the Flash content if you want to see it.

You wouldn't believe the number of highly annoying adverts (especially those with sound) this removes. Also, because so many sites plaster four or five Flashlets on a page, you'll welcome how much faster a lot of pages load!

mam's a fine site and iv'e no complaints , however it is sometimes a little slow going to stockwatch and back to trades or investors room, i don't have this problem on any other sites, can anyone explain this please,

I too think MAM is one of the best and have no complaints, but I admit to the site sometimes freezing and having to do the old alt/control/delete to come off-line and unfreeze it.
Don't know what causes it and it happens so infrequently it doesn't bother me.
Jimmy, you can't be as bad as me. I was using the DVD drawer as a cup holder for 6 months before someone told me what it really does.

I'm using Firefox and Sun Java on an IBM ThinkPad running Windows XP Pro and nothing whatsover is going wrong when I access MoneyAM.

MM - so how come nothing whatsoever is going wrong for you when the site keeps going down for everyone else? Can you share the address of the secret backup server with us? :-)
