THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

James Buchanan Duke: Father of the modern cigarette

It looks harmless enough - white, 8cm (3in) long and about the width of a child's finger - but the cigarette is vilified like no other product. Who invented it and how much responsibility does he bear for the countless deaths it has caused?

re - Inflation well up after last month well down

Suspicion is the word

why?

Last month was the time to fix Govement paying rates for next year
Last year they ( goverment ) managed to do more of the same though in a different way

Are the Goverment also Crooks?

Most likely some pensioners and the ones being affected think so and I would not blame them,
as there is plenty of comments of some getting trouble in getting ends meet

Former Labour MP just found guilty of fiddling expenses

MJ - just get a grip will you! ...... i am telling it like it is and not as you or anyone else might wish it to be ..... moral rectitude is great, but beware standing on too high a pedestal as it is likely that you could easily be knocked off it

if you are doing nothing at all to minimise your tax liability - and de facto that includes pension and/or (simple) IHT protection schemes - then you are very foolish indeed, which i do not believe for a minute

if you want to fight to have the law changed so that some of the more esoteric schemes that sail very close to the wind are outlawed, that is a different matter, but remarkably difficult to define or make water-tight or even fair in all sorts of areas

Ex-Labour Luton MP Margaret Moran falsely claimed more than £53,000 in expenses while in office, a jury has ruled.

The 57-year-old was tried in her absence at Southwark Crown Court after she was deemed unfit to stand trial.

She was accused of 15 counts of false accounting and six of using a false instrument over the claims.

The former Luton South MP, who lives in St Denys, Southampton, served in the Commons between 1997 and 2010.

Jurors were unable to return a guilty verdict after it was ruled that Moran was unfit to stand trial for mental health reasons.

Instead, in a trial of issue, the jury found that she had committed 15 counts of false accounting and six counts of using a false instrument over the claims for parliamentary expenses.

The court had heard that she was able to make a dry rot claim of £22,500 by "flipping" her two homes - changing which property was her second home and therefore allowing her to claim expenses on it.

No surprise here and Chelsea Football Club should apologise. Who on earth would want to be a referee in the current climate of overpaid primma donnas who dive at every opportunity and claim racial abuse at every opportunity. Mikel should be utterly ashamed of himself for claiming that Clattenburg racially abused him.

Haystack - 13 Nov 2012 21:14 - 19037 of 81564

My mother in law is 77. Yesterday she claimed to be 74. We managed to explain to her that she was 77. My son asked her how long she had thought she was 74. She replied, "since I was 73".

chuckles - 13 Nov 2012 22:24 - 19038 of 81564

doodlebug, wasn't it Ramires (not very fluent in English apparently) who told Mikel he'd been racially abused?

Whether true or not, from the outset this has appeared to be sour grapes by Chelsea players because of the decisions that went against their team during the Man Utd match. If there is a case to answer by Clattenburg by which I mean, abuse is proven the he should be banned from the game. On the other hand if the authorities prove that the players have deliberately misled to discredit Clattenburg then i would hope the players receive lengthy bans and the club a huge fine plus points deduction.

Cue Joe Say with his chip-on-shoulder-everyone-hates-Chelsea-routine but I'd say the same about any club.
