Tesco is now leading the way in 'green' shopping by gradually introducing fully degradable carrier bags in all our stores up and down the country.

This means that the waste will be sent to landfill sites, where the heat generated within these, will lead to disintegration of the degradable Tesco bags within a few months. This is of added benefit when the bags are commonly used as bin-liners, since it allows the flow of air and water around food and garden waste. Effectively, this results in more rapid bio-degradation, than if it was enclosed in ordinary carrier bags.

Green customers to get bonus at Tesco

Tesco is to offer shoppers a financial incentive to use fewer plastic shopping bags in a bid to cut the yearly four billion plastic bags it dishes out by 25% within two years

Tesco plastic bag scheme: the first of its kind

The UKs number one retailer will offer its 13 million Clubcard members points for not using plastic bags, re-using old plastic bags even those from rival supermarkets, packing shopping in carrier bags bought into the store and for returning bags.

Clubcard points are usually awarded at a rate of one for each 1 spent. Clubcard holders will also receive one voucher to redeem against a bag for life in Tesco stores.

Chief executive, Sir Terry Leahy, said the supermarket had been working on ways to reduce plastic bag use. We have had a team looking at carrier bags, trialling different ideas in our stores and talking to customers about what we could do to encourage them to use fewer bags and to recycle the ones they do use.

"We have to move the emphasis away from trying to force change and onto rewarding positive behaviour. In other words a more carrot than stick approach," he said.

From September all Tescos carrier bags will be degradable and a new thicker and bigger bag will be launched so customers need to use less bags and will be more likely to return them to the store.

The new scheme to encourage shoppers to bring their own bags starts on 14 August and will be supported by TV ads to explain how it will work. Celebrities, including Martine McCutcheon and Alan Tichmarsh, will front the adverts.

An intriguing RNS. Have browsed through the earlier discussion. Not sure the point has been made that the 46.4m approved share capital would probably only raise about 1.5m. 2m has been used since 1st May so we are talking about three months funds. How prepared will the banks be to lend against letters of intent? The scenario seems to be very tight and risky. The investors at 13p and then 8p must be as disillusioned as most of us.

However, I don't just want to talk the prospects down. The letters of intent may not be bankable but they do represent progress. Even if companies such as Perseco would normally play hard to get with hard cash, the likelihood is that they will provide stage payment(s) in return for improved terms. SEO has at least come clean about GREENSEAL and the protracted process of generating revenue.

My expectation is that they will raise their three months capital and use that to give breathing space to convert the letters of intent. GREENSEAL progress will remain slow as they will be throwing resources where the first revenue will come from. In one sense the shares are still not that cheap with a cap. of around 40m. OK, there is still some more potential downside. But if my suggested scenario emerges, this price level will become history.

Todays FT ".....is considering refinancing through a share issue after a delay in the development of its GreenSeal product. ..............blamed the delay on difficulties in gaining access to machines ....................900,000 enough for the next three months........was looking at all funding options....... nyleve - 18 Aug 2006 08:20 - 19053 of 27111

cynic

Unfortunately the Daily Mail agrees with you - they say "Could be the knackers yard by Christmas". Hope they are wrong, I still hold for my sins !!!!

cynic - 18 Aug 2006 08:28 - 19054 of 27111

I know mine is an unpopular stance here, but why on earth so many of you keep clinging to straws in this company that is clearly floundering in quicksand (sorry about mixing metaphors) is totally beyond comprehension, let alone common sense.

boldtrader - 18 Aug 2006 08:28 - 19055 of 27111

Knackers yard or Racing stable?!! Now all bets are on for all SEO holders,This has been a Grand National roller coaster ride since 2001 for me,in and out with small profits here and there, but right now if I sold i would blow,so if i'm going to blow I'll blow the lot,I've believed in the concept and product since day one,so its my call and i'll go down singing!! GOOD LUCK to all holders. Cheers.

STANELCO (rumours of a rescue rights issue at 2-1/2 pence)

rajstar - 18 Aug 2006 08:39 - 19057 of 27111

"3months of cash left" does not bother me much as one contract will see this past 20p. It was in good interest that SEO had to come out disclosing their cash balance. We will see funding pretty soon and it might be at 2.5p or 3.5p. There are lots of other companies that are running on low cash balance with no future revenue in sight. SEO right now is not for the weak hearted.
As bold trader n cynic mentioned and i support their views. If it goes down then we will put this as part of an experience but i doubt it. " SEO will come out laughing out of this area soon."

greekman - 18 Aug 2006 08:41 - 19058 of 27111

Aldwickk,
Yes it looks like just a rumor, so why help spread it.

aldwickk - 18 Aug 2006 08:41 - 19059 of 27111

Were are all those posters who post all day long ? now that there is a good reason to post [ rights issue rumours ect, large share price drop ] there is no sign of Alan & co.

hewittalan6 - 18 Aug 2006 08:43 - 19060 of 27111

Not clinging to straws, cynic.
I cannot possibly divulge the information I have gathered over the last few weeks, but if only 10% of it is correct, this company will do very well.
The case for staying in is very clear to me, though I would never urge anyone else to, or to get in for the first time, or boost their holding.
Yes there are ifs and buts, and it is a gamble, but all investing is. I just feel, with that info, that the odds are firmly on my side.
As usual, WTFDIK and DYOR.

No but there's you and cynic who can talk to each other all day long, sad springs to mind.

hewittalan6 - 18 Aug 2006 08:45 - 19062 of 27111

I apologise, Aldwickk. You obviously miss me so very much.
I have several computer screens around me and I cannot devote every minute to SEO, but I was writing my post as you wrote yours.
If you are that convinced, how big is your short?

aldwickk - 18 Aug 2006 08:47 - 19063 of 27111

Greekman,

90% of what is posted on this thread is rumour and speculation.

aldwickk - 18 Aug 2006 08:52 - 19064 of 27111

Driver,

I would be very sad if i held these.
