Glad the UKIP government is congratulating itself on the recent election success.

Also to see its latest police "chiefs" elections have been a democratic and public success.

Another waste of money helping to reduce the defficit.

I agree a complete waste of money, that money and the ongoing expense of so called commissioners would, imv have been better spent keeping bobbies on the beat.

Remember there was a time when we didn't have a right to vote in this county, so in respect to the people who did bother to fight for that right then every vote should be used.

I understand the argument that not voting is supposed to send out a message that they don't agree with the election, but also it gives an argument to some people that we don't need elections in other areas in the future.

Also not voting just because you disagree with the election just seems so sterile and a bit "Dog in the Manger".

Commission calls for Welsh government income tax powers

The Welsh government should have the power to vary income tax by 2020, an influential report on the future of devolution has said.

The Silk Commission says a referendum should be held on whether Welsh ministers ought to have new powers over income tax rates.

Control over other smaller taxes should also be devolved, it says.

The changes would make the Welsh government responsible for raising around a quarter of its own budget.

Stan I disagree with the election for the so called commissioners, and as it was the first of it's type do you not think there should have been a further box on the ballot sheet ie, do you agree with this election.
Had such a box been included I'm sure the turnout would have been far greater, and possibly let the government know that there was little support for it.

Your points are valid to a point, the problem I have is not only do I disagree with the election, but which of the ten (for memory) candidates should I vote for. I took the trouble to look at all the candidates and their profiles (online) such as they were and with the exception of 1, I did not know any of them or what they stood for, maybe if they came to the door or, for that matter just sent a flier I would have thought differently. I was certainly not going to vote blind.
The excuse for not sending fliers around was that it was too costly, which sort of vindicates the view that the election should not have taken place.

We had a similar situation here as well and agree not ideal but I went for the "lesser of the evils" based on the information that I had. With the internet it is relatively easier to do research these days on some people, but leaflet drops and a door knockings in person was never practical given the large areas involved on this occasion.

Another benefit of voting is that you do have more of stake should you have a disagreement with the representative as you did make the effort.

i did not have any intrinsic objection to the election, but we received no pamphlets or anything else to tell us anything about any of the contestants and how each might differ from the other ..... had we done so, then i am sure we would have voted

why am i lazy?
why should i do their work for them when i have other things to occupy me?
if the candidates cannot be bothered to sell their wares, then inevitably i remain unaware of what they are selling .... even now i have no idea who won and if it will make the slightest difference to our local force

So not only lazy.. but disinterested as well.
