We have it in majority of professional areas of our society.

Why should the news media be any different, especially when they have abuse self regulation for years?

I think it will inhibit publishing of items that can be of benefit to the pubkic. The media should just be subject to the same laws as the average person.

i confess i haven't really bothered to follow this, but i dare say the "divergence of opinion" is that there is a fear of a slippery slope to losing freedom of speech (and the press) ...... for all that, i would not have thought it that fundamental to any particular party standpoint that one couldn't just allow a free vote

Get control of the media and you can drip feed the less intelligent of the populace with the proper-gander that suits the Party line, If you want evidence of that just look across the Atlantic and see how it's been done over there for years.

The Iranian military says it has captured an unmanned US drone in its airspace over Gulf waters.

The Revolutionary Guards said they had brought down a ScanEagle aircraft - one of the smaller, less sophisticated drones employed by the Americans.

do i take it that you do not believe in competitive sport either, as that means there'll be losers (can't possibly have that) or in the grammar school system which de facto encourages the (relatively) talented to be even more so?

personally, i'ld very much like to see companies being financially encouraged to take apprentices and similar ...... as it stands, it's very very difficult for someone who has taken a plumbing or building course or similar to get proper and most necessary field experience
