THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Ed balls you may not have any soon, or will your head be on the chopping board ?

Your leader looks none to impressed. :-))

TANKER - 05 Dec 2012 18:52 - 19349 of 81564

I have been out for my 4 pints
balls must of been be earlier than me today

Fred1new - 05 Dec 2012 19:39 - 19350 of 81564

You must have been drinking with Dreams and doodlebug.

They say birds of feather stick together.

Interesting to see the breakdown of Osborne's confession.

He has failed in meeting his targets.

No gloss paint will cover that up.

Await rating reappraisal.

dreamcatcher - 05 Dec 2012 19:44 - 19351 of 81564

Fred you are more farcical than Ed balls.

dreamcatcher - 05 Dec 2012 19:54 - 19352 of 81564

I think most observers were stunned by Ed Balls lack of homework today . Then the
terrible and unprofessional way he presented himself and thirdly took in what the chancellor had to say. Cannot see him in a position in the Labour party before the next election and as for him in government running the country. (no comment)

Pinocchio effect" means people's noses heat up when they lie (Or drink to much wine lol) Fred ?

Temperature scans using a thermal camera show that the area round human noses tends to heat up when we lie, say University of Granada researchers.
By Rob Waugh | Yahoo! News – Tue, Dec 4, 2012.. .

A thermal image (hot areas are red) shows off how lies affect the face

In the children's story, Pinocchio's nose grows every time he tells a lie - but real noses can also give away when we're telling fibs.

Temperature scans using a thermal camera show that the area round human noses tends to heat up when we lie.

The effort of concealing our feelings seems to cause the area to grow warmer - and it is very difficult to mask. The finding could have important implications for lie detection and interrogation of suspects.

A team at the University of Granada are pioneering using a thermograph - the infrared cameras used in night vision cameras - in psychology.

When a person lies they suffer a "Pinocchio effect", which is an increase in the temperature around the nose and in the orbital muscle in the inner corner of the eye.

In addition, when we perform a considerable mental effort our face temperature drops and when we have an anxiety attack our face temperature raises.

Thus, sexual excitement and desire can be identified in men and women using thermography, since they induce an increase in chest and genital temperature.

This study demonstrates that –in physiological terms– men and women get excited at the same time, even although women say they are not excited or only slightly excited.

Thermographic cameras have a wide range of uses such as measuring energy loss in buildings, indicating respiratory diseases in cows or rabies in raccoons.

Thermography was developed in the USA during the II World War to detect the enemy (night vision) - but has rarely been applied to psychology.

Scientists have discovered that when a mental effort is made (performing difficult tasks, being interrogated on a specific event or lying) face temperature changes.

When we lie about our feelings, the temperature around our nose raises and a brain element called "insula" is activated.

The insula is a component of the brain reward system, and it only activates when we experience real feelings - the insula is involved in the detection and regulation of body temperature.

Therefore, insula activity seems to be 'inversely' related to facial temperature change - ie concealing your real thoughts makes your face heat up more.

The more active the insula (the more 'real' the feeling) the lower the temperature change, and viceversa, the researchers state.
..

I would guess you have a similar nose Fred ?

Dreams,

Continue your delusions.

-----------------------------

Seems that the majority of economists are thinking of Osborne as the "hollow man".

Don't listen to him waffling and trying to defend his failures on the To-day programme this morning.

-------------------------

Has he lost the UK Triple A valuation?

He is an embarrassment and should be singing "we will all go down together".

The Egyptian army has deployed tanks and armoured troop carriers outside the presidential palace in Cairo after clashes between supporters and opponents of President Mohammed Morsi left five dead and hundreds injured.

But, despite their presence, there are reports of a fresh outbreak of stone-throwing between the two sides.

Egypt is seeing growing unrest over a controversial draft constitution.

The government insists that a referendum will go ahead this month.

The BBC's Jon Leyne in Cairo says the clashes are possibly the most dangerous development in Egypt's growing political crisis.

fred are you on benefits a lad about

dreamcatcher - 06 Dec 2012 11:07 - 19359 of 81564

Still see you make no comments on labours shambles of a talk yesterday Fred ?

Fred1new - 06 Dec 2012 11:15 - 19360 of 81564

Tanker,

Yes, I benefit from the the advances in society, which have occurred due to the introduction of the Health System, Welfare System, Education System, etc. which have added to the general well-being of the majority of people in the UK over the last 100
years.

Also, I am glad I paid my taxes to help pay for those facilities and don't begrudge doing so.

Unfortunately, in your case it seems that you have been failed by Educationally and Medically facilities.

That is a pity.

Fred1new - 06 Dec 2012 11:18 - 19361 of 81564

Dreams,

Try engaging the remnants of your brain, read and then try to understand what Osborne was saying and the consequences.

I know you will find it difficult but try to engage the little you seem to have.

dreamcatcher - 06 Dec 2012 11:22 - 19362 of 81564

There were two people in the debate, one being Osbourne and one er called Mr Balls up. Its Mr Balls your brain seems to elude.

dreamcatcher - 06 Dec 2012 11:24 - 19363 of 81564

Fred why do these cartoons exist then, I bet you just do not understand it as you seem to think the sun shines from his a***

Fred1new - 06 Dec 2012 11:39 - 19364 of 81564

Dreams.

For me, you seem to be having wet ones and belong to the same group as Georgie Boy

As you are good as C+P trying reading this reasonable summary of your favourite:

"The smirking class … George Osborne leaves Downing Street before delivering the autumn statement. Photograph: Peter Macdiarmid/Getty Images

Gosh, George Osborne looks smug. As Labour's John Denham pointed out, the worse the news he brings us, the more pleased with himself he seems. He was smirking before, during and after his autumn statement. Hasn't he heard about the smirking ban? Why can't he just huddle in the cold outside with a tight little group of other smirkers?

And the news was bad. No chancellor in modern times has had to admit such a complete failure to get his numbers right. (Though some might have shown a little more humility. I name no names but Gordon Brown knows who he is.)

"Potemkin village" is political jargon for dressing something up to look much better than it is. On the wasteland of the British economy, Osborne has created the world's first Potemkin desert. A few green shoots of recovery are scattered forlornly across the wind-blasted sands.

Or to be more topical, his speech resembled the Cratchits' Christmas tree – dead, bare sticks with a few baubles hanging limply down.

He got off on to the wrong foot by declaring at the very beginning, "it's taking time, but the British economy is healing!""
