FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 11:20 - 19353 of 21973

you're right; i did misread your initial post, but no matter

it's pretty brave to attempt the knife trick though i understand the logic
16,850 and 6,050 are i think the supposed support levels now in play

Balerboy - 06 Jan 2016 13:34 - 19354 of 21973

jimmy shouldn't that read 17098........

jimmy b - 06 Jan 2016 13:55 - 19355 of 21973

It should baler well spotted , no wonder i confused cynic he thought i was a millionaire overnight ..

jimmy b - 06 Jan 2016 13:58 - 19356 of 21973

cynic 17850 has held pre open on DOW .. That was the low so far on IG.

Oil hitting 11 year lows .

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 14:28 - 19357 of 21973

just back from the gym, but yes it did
good to see a support doing its job at last :-)

HARRYCAT - 06 Jan 2016 14:42 - 19358 of 21973

You're wearing a support at the gym? Careful there!

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 14:47 - 19359 of 21973

i always wear a body-belt for dead-lifts and squats
i don't and never have had back trouble, and I don't want to start now!

==============

jimmy - with hindsight, i hope you were brave enough to get in at the bottom (Dow) or thereabouts ........ decent recovery currently under way; let's hope it continues

Stan - 06 Jan 2016 15:15 - 19360 of 21973

A Gym?.. oh thats so indoors what a wimp o -):

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 15:21 - 19361 of 21973

not if you're a geriatric like me it isn't ..... can't afford to get a chill on what passes for a chest :-)

jimmy b - 06 Jan 2016 15:24 - 19362 of 21973

You don't want to be dead lifting anything at your age cynic ,you'll do yourself a mischief ....

Stan - 06 Jan 2016 15:28 - 19363 of 21973

A chill? what's that..southern softy alert -):

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2016 15:31 - 19364 of 21973

To be so close to death!

Taking a risk?

Can JB watch?

Balerboy - 06 Jan 2016 15:40 - 19365 of 21973

Too much exercise adle's the brain cyners....... after all you forgot who I was the other day....... sign of times to come... ;)

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 15:46 - 19366 of 21973

chuckle .... such a common name you have, it could have been anyone of several :-)

nothing like dead lifting ...... gives plenty of exercise in a hard winter or flu epidemic

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 15:50 - 19367 of 21973

jimmy - DOW - do i spot a little support level at 16920? ..... have a look at today's 10 minute chart and let me know what you think

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 16:27 - 19368 of 21973

meanwhile
DOW has recovered relatively sharply as is now wondering whether it dares break through 17,000

of course the major worry in all of this is that we are seeing far too much of lower highs + lower lows

jimmy b - 06 Jan 2016 16:59 - 19369 of 21973

Had to be out for some of the afternoon unfortunately so am out of sync with the goings on .

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 17:09 - 19370 of 21973

DOW has started to struggle again, so though it's tempting to go long again - for how long can this market keep falling in lumps? - it's mighty dangerous territory

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 19:41 - 19371 of 21973

i note that dow has just dropped through 16,900 and quite sharply too

==============

already 16845 and falling
cash ftse down 40

cynic - 06 Jan 2016 21:02 - 19372 of 21973

DOW managed to crawl back to just above 16,900 at close with cash FTSE showing -15

a very brave man with balls of steel and who can sleep through anything might risk a long on DOW o'night ..... no; don't look at me! :-)
