whatuwant - 21 Aug 2006 13:28

Read the latest interims.......just make sure that you are sitting down.

Didn't the lead singer of Nirvana blow his head off? May be the market thinks it's Kurt Cobain

ptholden - 29 Oct 2007 20:42 - 1944 of 3050

Yes indeedy Richard, the trend is your friend 'n all. I did state quite clearly that picking tops and bottoms is a dnagerous sport and that I had probably jumped the gun, hope none of the lurkers followed me in. But it really is a small stake so no harm done or will be done :)

Just to reiterate the first four basics:

1. Check the overall market
2. Check the sector market
3. Check the current trend
4. Trade in the direction of the trend

And all four are up and these four take preference over the other indicators, which perversely all indicate short. Bit like SCHE Richard, I knew it was going to come off, but getting the timing right is soooo difficult.

However, a lesson re-learnt and reinforced.

As far as the overall market is concerned I strongly believe that the volatility over the late summer is merely the prelude to a real correction, I doubt we have seen anything yet.

Edit: Oh, SOLA will still come off, I'll bet on it :-).................again!!

cynic - 30 Oct 2007 05:01 - 1945 of 3050

i too think the markets are now far too far ahead of themselves.

cynic - 31 Oct 2007 12:30 - 1946 of 3050

and i have now shorted these at about 471

kitosdad - 01 Nov 2007 07:58 - 1947 of 3050

Morning Cyn, yep, I too think a pull back is due, but it's a difficult one to trade.

cynic - 01 Nov 2007 08:20 - 1948 of 3050

shorted 5000 yesterday with no trouble

Greyhound - 01 Nov 2007 12:36 - 1949 of 3050

I'm staying long for the moment

cynic - 01 Nov 2007 13:12 - 1950 of 3050

both tenable arguments ...... i just think the markets are well overdue a sharp correction and i doubt SOLA will be immune given its strong performance over recent weeks - i.e. plenty of profits to be taken even without forced sales to meet margins elsewhere

cynic - 05 Nov 2007 18:07 - 1951 of 3050

SOLA has been remarkably strong over the lst week, though today has seen a change in fortunes ..... no obvious reason, and would only be rationalising if i suggested a slightly stronger $ or even some peeps being obliged or feeling it wise to liquidate some positions.

goldfinger - 08 Nov 2007 10:31 - 1952 of 3050

My shorts well in the money now.

Bad results and we really will have take off.

cynic - 08 Nov 2007 10:47 - 1953 of 3050

i am short too at 472, so also nicely in the money ..... nevertheless sp remains remarkably resilient

goldfinger - 08 Nov 2007 11:06 - 1954 of 3050

Yep but cynic theres a lot more bad news to come out of the US. And dont forget its got a very high beta.

This is going to lead us into a full blown bear imho.

Anything but remarkable results way outstripping forecasts will lead to sola taking one hell of a plunge. The balance sheet is a total mess.

Best of luck mate, not posting as much at the moment due to business comitments.

cynic - 08 Nov 2007 11:32 - 1955 of 3050

US news is not strictly relevant ..... i suspect SOLA remains firm because much or even most of their revenue is in Chinese Yuan

Greyhound - 09 Nov 2007 08:51 - 1956 of 3050

I'm happy to stay long here for the time being.

cynic - 09 Nov 2007 09:04 - 1957 of 3050

and i am moderately happy to be short ..... at least it's sufficiently in the money to pay for dinner for 2 at say Waterside with enough for dinner at local Indian to spare

Greyhound - 09 Nov 2007 09:07 - 1958 of 3050

As long as it's enough to pick up the drinks tab too ;)

cynic - 09 Nov 2007 09:25 - 1959 of 3050

i always include some respectable wine ...... tips are already added by these establishments! ...... in truth, have yet to have a decent (i.e. memorable or even value for money) meal at Waterside and Fat Duck I avoid ..... but that's another story

cynic - 09 Nov 2007 13:07 - 1960 of 3050

suddenly SOLA tumbles straight through 200 dma with next obvious support at 400 ...... rsi also at the upper end of its scale ..... if london and usa finish the week as bleakly as now looks very possible, then expect that level to be hit

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=SOLA&S

goldfinger - 09 Nov 2007 13:09 - 1961 of 3050

yep 400p looks on the cards.

US futures taking an hit I see from the front page here.

cynic - 12 Nov 2007 08:33 - 1962 of 3050

sp now nudging 25 dma support ..... markets are quite firm, but will it hold?
