Barcelona starlet Deulofeu makes Everton loan move
Everton have signed 19-year-old forward Gerard Deulofeu on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Deulofeu played last season for the Catalan club's B team, scoring 18 times in 33 matches.

He has made two senior appearances for Barcelona and helped Spain's Under-19s to become European champions in 2011 and 2012.

"Gerard is a real diamond of Spanish football and has incredible footballing talent," said manager Roberto Martinez.

"I am delighted that he has chosen to take the next step of his career with Everton."

Deulofeu will join up with the squad later this summer after having a break following his involvement in the recent Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.

Everton have signed exciting Barcelona starlet Gerard Deulofeu.

The 19-year-old forward is described as a 'diamond' by Blues boss Roberto Martinez and arrives on a season long loan and with a reputation as one of Europe's finest young prospects.

A number of top European sides were reportedly interested in securing the player and a delighted Martinez told evertonfc.com: "Gerard is a real diamond of Spanish football and a boy with incredible footballing talent and I am delighted that he has chosen to take the next step of his career with Everton."

A product of La Masia, Barcelona's famed youth system, Deulofeu played last season for the Catalan giants' 'B' team, scoring 18 times in 33 matches.

He has also made a handful of substitute appearances for Barca's senior side in the league, cup and Champions League and impressed enough to be handed a long term contract at the Nou Camp earlier this summer.

The 5ft 10in flyer is comfortable on either wing or behind the striker and renowned for his expert close control, swift changes of direction and unerring finishing.

Deulofeu has played for Spain's Under-17s, Under-19s, Under-20s and Under-21s and joins a growing band of Spanish speakers under Everton manager Martinez.

He will join up with the Blues squad later this summer after enjoying a well-earned break following his involvement in the recent Under-20s World Cup in Turkey.

And in 'Arsene Wenger moans about the economics of football' news, the Arsenal manager has bemoaned Real Madrid's reported £100m pursuit of Gareth Bale, claiming that it 'makes a joke of Financial Fair Play'.

"It makes a joke of it," said Wenger, who spent last night tearing himself apart as he desperately contemplated upping his bid for Luis Suarez to £40,000003.

a further 2 quid ......LOL.

HARRYCAT - 06 Aug 2013 14:53 - 1960 of 6918

Norwich v Everton first game of the season. Someone has offered me their seat for the match if the weather stays fine (they will be playing cricket). Grant Holt now gone to Wigan and lots of new boys playing for Delia......we shall see! Early season games can go either way.

Chris Carson - 06 Aug 2013 15:24 - 1961 of 6918

Couple of new boys playing for Everton too Harry, plus a new manager who has no problem negotiating with Barcelona for players :O)

HARRYCAT - 06 Aug 2013 15:35 - 1962 of 6918

Based on history we might see a draw, but not too unhappy with that so long as there are a few goals! Are you trying to scare me mentioning Barcelona? Well, we've got..........er.......a guy from Argentina who went to Barcelona B...and then Leeds! :o)
