FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

george - i think it's a typo of mine; i think 200k was indeed the estimate

anyway, DOW all over the place, but with nimble fingers there's some dosh to be made
i anticipate jimmy buying a private jet with his proceeds ..... perhaps he can then offer to fly MrT to argentina and fred to north korea, all for free of course

Stan - 08 Jan 2016 14:55 - 19440 of 21973

Free?.. can I come.

jimmy b - 08 Jan 2016 15:03 - 19441 of 21973

I do have a private jet ,i love a bit of Airfix !

Why take Fred to North Korea? he'd get on great , just his sort .

jimmy b - 08 Jan 2016 15:04 - 19442 of 21973

Looks like a crap finish to the week coming .

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 15:13 - 19443 of 21973

Cynic,
I think the fight between Saudi and Iran is related to sanctions. If sanctions removed, Saudi and allies will lose some of the attractions and Iran benefits a lot.

What do you think?

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 16:19 - 19446 of 21973

i think the sunnis and shias have been at each other's throats for generations ...... like the catholics and protestants in ireland

don't forget that the saudis are only one or two generations from being desert nomads

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 16:21 - 19447 of 21973

meanwhile, what an f* end to the week .... and to think that today has looked very jolly at times

ahoj - 08 Jan 2016 16:32 - 19448 of 21973

Fully agreed about Saudis, shias and sunnis.

Are isis sunnis or shia?
They can kill their own mother....

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 17:44 - 19449 of 21973

saudi royal family are sunni and support ????? (good question)
iranians are shia and support whoever saudi does not! - actually they support assad

isis is radical sunni
saudi royals are wahabi sunni which is also a strict and puritanical sect

most saudis are sunni, though i suspect a large proportion are not followers of the wahabi sect by choice

much of isis money comes from a strong radical clique within the saudi court and elsewhere

saudi purportedly supports "the west"

most syrians are sunni ......
but assad is shia

===============

complicated isn't it!

Your right there cynic a rubbish end to today when it looked like we had hit the bottom ,anyway never mind you know the markets and we will bounce back at some point probably next week ..

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 20:20 - 19451 of 21973

oh dear

Tuesday Turnaround.

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 21:16 - 19454 of 21973

Dow gives up 1,079 points for week, or 6.2% -- its worst weekly percentage loss since September 2011.

says it all .... down about 170 today and it was up about 200 at lunchtime

Claret Dragon - 08 Jan 2016 21:35 - 19455 of 21973

I believe its the worst opening week ever in US. Beats all the other bad times over past century. Says it all. When you step back and look at the bigger picture. It could get a lot lot worse over next two years. Just my opinion. Personally up 100% since xmas. Although i get greater pleasure from going long than seeing this mess materialise. Its going to spread into job losses and then the real pain unfolds into everyday economy.

Hope the all of you have made a bit this week.

cynic - 08 Jan 2016 21:48 - 19456 of 21973
