FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Claret Dragon - 15 Jan 2016 15:38 - 19604 of 21973

Volatility !!!!!!!!!!!!

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 15:39 - 19605 of 21973

Mad !!!

cynic - 15 Jan 2016 15:52 - 19606 of 21973

i missed the chance to buy DOW at 15,978 as had only just walked in
with a tiny stake, i eventually bought at 16,044 on the basis that i don't mind topping that up if the opportunity looks right

ahoj - 15 Jan 2016 16:05 - 19607 of 21973

15978 again

cynic - 15 Jan 2016 16:07 - 19608 of 21973

i know, so i bravely (stupidly if it all dives another 100) topped up at 15977

ahoj - 15 Jan 2016 16:10 - 19609 of 21973

oil and pound are moving down.

Stan - 15 Jan 2016 16:17 - 19610 of 21973

Footsie short closed to a very satisfactory week.

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 16:18 - 19611 of 21973

I opened one at 15976 but don't intend to stay in long , iv'e dived in and out a few times FTSE but don't have much confidence in this at the moment .

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 16:28 - 19612 of 21973

Out for 52 points .

cynic - 15 Jan 2016 16:32 - 19613 of 21973

banked 2nd position for 50 points and will leave 1st running (16044) with limit at 16075 (proof of non-greed!)

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 16:40 - 19614 of 21973

Where next with oil ? never thought we would see it in the 20's .

If DOW falls again to around -400 i'll go long ,if not then i hope it bounces for you cynic.

dreamcatcher - 15 Jan 2016 16:44 - 19615 of 21973

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 16:46 - 19616 of 21973

Stan - 15 Jan 2016 16:47 - 19617 of 21973

I can see no end to the retreat unless a couple or 3 of Countries stop pumping or cut back substantially.

Stan - 15 Jan 2016 16:48 - 19618 of 21973

Yes I think he probably is James -):

dreamcatcher - 15 Jan 2016 16:49 - 19619 of 21973

Thought that would get a reaction. :-)) Get out in your car and use a bit more. We will have to buy gas guzzlers. lol

jimmy b - 15 Jan 2016 16:50 - 19620 of 21973

Maybe we can end up like Venezuela 1p per gallon .

dreamcatcher - 15 Jan 2016 16:51 - 19621 of 21973

If you two have the same judgement on here as for the ftse comp, I rest my case. :-))
