FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Had a dabble in the first hour this morning.

Waiting now for US to show direction tomorrow.

To be honest I am clueless to where its going.

This is quite hateful , are we near the bottom ? i'm holding banks and house stock, not too many , however i think i would like to be sitting on cash for the referendum later this year ..

cynic - 18 Jan 2016 16:11 - 19656 of 21973

charts for DOW and S&P would indicate there is the potential to fall quite a lot further

FTSE will be vulnerable to slumps in crude, china and america, and of course the upcoming referendum is scarcely a calming influence

at the final count, i would expect the referendum to come out as "in" and possibly by quite a decent margin, but that is still a few months away

cynic - 18 Jan 2016 16:59 - 19657 of 21973

that said, i am quite tempted to take my life in my hands and place a small DOW long to run o'night as a decent bounce is now surely well overdue

Stan - 18 Jan 2016 17:24 - 19658 of 21973

Don't do it.

cynic - 18 Jan 2016 17:25 - 19659 of 21973

i think you're right ...... when in doubt do nowt :-)

HARRYCAT - 18 Jan 2016 17:29 - 19660 of 21973

Futures haven't really moved at all today. Surely a DOW punt before the open is a 50/50 gamble?

Stan - 18 Jan 2016 17:45 - 19661 of 21973

Well done Alf.. now about that fiver you owe me -):

jimmy b - 18 Jan 2016 21:04 - 19662 of 21973

cynic , i myself would be more likely to go long FTSE and be out with any decent points.

That last statement does not contain any investment advice the FTSE can go down as well as up .

Stan - 19 Jan 2016 07:31 - 19663 of 21973

Up it is then today Chaps.. early at least.

jimmy b - 19 Jan 2016 08:05 - 19664 of 21973

Big Bounce . Had to happen but for how long ?

Stan - 19 Jan 2016 08:06 - 19665 of 21973

Indeed.

cynic - 19 Jan 2016 08:11 - 19666 of 21973

i did nothing, which was actually the sensible thing, but it's always annoying when you find you have guessed right - and keep very quiet when the reverse!

how big a bounce remains to be seen, but longer term the outlook remains grim

Stan - 19 Jan 2016 08:19 - 19668 of 21973

I agree medium to long term not looking great at the moment.

jimmy b - 19 Jan 2016 08:26 - 19669 of 21973

I'm not hanging around here any more ,you lot are all doom and gloom ..

Stan - 19 Jan 2016 08:30 - 19670 of 21973

Steady man.. stay resolute.

cynic - 19 Jan 2016 08:30 - 19671 of 21973
