Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

What puzzles me is how fraud has become fiddling and the fiddlers still get paid, even when they are out of tune with those who are paying their bills.
you mean like that undemocratic mafia in brussels/strasbourg or wherever next they wish to find an expensive trough?
i confess that if it is a straight choice of EU warts and all or out, then with some reluctance i guess i'ld vote for the latter - as will the overwhelming majority of even "thinking voters" in UK

Cynic,
Depends upon how/when the question of in or out is asked.
If the UK put more effort into the improving the EU's auditing and reducing the "fraud" and/or "inefficiencies" and "expenses", rather than trying to wreck the "institution" itslelf, then necessary reforms could/would be made.
As it is, I see more and more Europeans wishing to see the back of the UK and getting on with necessary changes without reference to our "needs" .
In spite of Fauxpage's screams and shouts, if this happens then economically the UK will suffer.
Also, the "city" and "financial sector" would suffer, even though some vested interests in the city want to continue to be "self" governing.

There is a big, big difference in having support and gaining parliamentary seats as the Liberals have found. There is very little chance of UKIP gaining any seats. Also, typically there may be support for a party mid term and even close to the election. This rarely translates as into real votes as the electorate revert to voting along traditional party lines. The SDP found this to be true and had to merge with the Liberals. The UKIP will turn into another also ran in the fullness of time.

Hays,
I am not sure you are repeating the latest tory mantra, or giving voice to the hopes/fears or phantasies of the tory hierarchy. (The effects of of drugs can cause long lasting delusions.)
Sounds like the fears of Cameron and Osborne, with the latter listening to the whispers in the corridors about him replacing his "leader" before the next election.
Read an interesting quote about Osborne with the opinion that he was politically astute but morally illiterate.
Perhaps, both can hold onto their phantasies until the next election, but the coalition seems to be similar to a marriage made in hell and the scars from the divorce going on for generations.
I would not like to be in the bedroom at the end of this civil partnership with both others looking for the party silver.
Interesting to watch.
What odds are you offering?

Hi Haystack,
I would not be too sure about UKIP turning into another also ran.
I am a member of a Conservative club (only reason being its cheap parking) and the main talking point is UKIP, with many members calling Cameron an, all talk, little action PM, and that UKIP is the only alternative vote.
Many people think that UKIP is a one policy party, but I would urge everyone who thinks that, to look at their manifesto, they may be very surprised.
I am not so gullible as to believe anything politicians say, but if UKIP were ever in a position to carry their policies forward and kept just 25% of their promises, I would be happy, as I believe in well over 90% of their aims.
There main aim of course is to get us out of the EU shambles, and as there is no other party wishing to do the same, they will be getting my vote and many others who agree.

Tau Ceti's planets nearest around single, Sun-like star
The nearest single Sun-like star to the Earth hosts five planets - one of which is in the "habitable zone" where liquid water can exist, astronomers say.
Tau Ceti's planetary quintet - reported in an online paper that will appear in Astronomy and Astrophysics - was found in existing planet-hunting data.
The study's refined methods of sifting through data should help find even more far-flung worlds.
The star now joins Alpha Centauri as a nearby star known to host planets.
