FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

was lucky enough to make 65 points on a very small DOW long about 20 minutes ago albeit that i got out too early in hindsight

Had a FTSE long today and got out at even ,too unpredictable for me right now.
In fact it's all becoming too unpredictable , re my earlier post about the hedge fund throwing the towel in .

Fantastıc move.

cynic - 26 Jan 2016 17:15 - 19822 of 21973

added modest FTSE long shortly before the close and that is now very nicely profitable
may also add a bit to a current DOW long which is also now well in the money

jimmy b - 26 Jan 2016 17:42 - 19823 of 21973

Oil flying as well ..

cynic - 26 Jan 2016 19:31 - 19824 of 21973

out of index longs for very acceptable profits
AAPL's numbers after hours are likely to have some impact

Stan - 26 Jan 2016 21:16 - 19825 of 21973

Dow edging up to the +2% mark with 15 mins to go, will it hold to the close?

Well I'm not putting money on it -):

Chaps whats the best free live Oil price update site, a non spread-bet type ware I may have to register?

sdunwell - 27 Jan 2016 11:02 - 19828 of 21973

I don't know whether it's the best, but you could take a look at this one Stan:

IG's L2 gives true live prices on all commodities as well as oil

Stan - 27 Jan 2016 11:56 - 19830 of 21973

Thanks both will have a look later.

cynic - 27 Jan 2016 12:29 - 19831 of 21973

if yellen reversed us recent rate rise, wouldn't that knock the markets even more?
just an idle question on a hypothesis from nowhere

Stan - 27 Jan 2016 13:47 - 19832 of 21973

Good question unfortunately I don't have a good answer, Dow up over night, Nikkei up and what do we do.. go sideways.

Markets unfathomable at the mo so watch and wait for a signal is my stance.

jimmy b - 27 Jan 2016 14:32 - 19833 of 21973

Strange action today DOW opens down over 100 pts and FTSE is slightly up.

Stan - 27 Jan 2016 14:41 - 19834 of 21973

Yeah unusual but what's Oil doing today James?

jimmy b - 27 Jan 2016 14:48 - 19835 of 21973

Nothing much at the moment Stan ,around evens although can change rapidly .

Stan - 27 Jan 2016 14:55 - 19836 of 21973

Thanks James, stand by your beds then for a while.

cynic - 27 Jan 2016 15:16 - 19837 of 21973

DOW
almost certainly upset by AAPL's dismal results, but not happy to see a blip below 16,000
fingers x'ed that is but temprary

cynic - 27 Jan 2016 16:33 - 19838 of 21973

DOW
what a very interesting session here today
having been down as much as 175, it is now down just 55 and slowly ticking north
it would be very jolly if 16,200 was broken before close ..... it's still a litte way off (16,115), but far from impossible
