FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

next week, we could all be surprised as is a par for the course of recent times, but otherwise DOW could easily head back towards 16,000

"trade what you see" never been truer then in the present market conditions.

cynic - 06 Feb 2016 15:47 - 19985 of 21973

with the indices zipping up and down like demented zebedees, it's difficult to determine quite what one is seeing!

Claret Dragon - 07 Feb 2016 19:22 - 19986 of 21973

Ready to roll with it again this week.

Stan - 07 Feb 2016 19:27 - 19987 of 21973

Yes indeed CD, do you or anyone else know when the Futures open for the respective Indices by Country?

Claret Dragon - 07 Feb 2016 19:35 - 19988 of 21973

No I don't Stan. Just go it alone.

Stan - 07 Feb 2016 19:37 - 19989 of 21973

Thanks CD, I'll have a dig around.

cynic - 08 Feb 2016 08:26 - 19990 of 21973

stan - in a slightly convoluted way, you can trade index futures on sunday through the IG site ..... however, imo you're probably better and safer to wait until there are at least indications from asia
that said, you can still trade the indices until about an hour after wall street closes in the evening

cynic - 08 Feb 2016 09:30 - 19991 of 21973

i don't know whether it's just computer trading, but DOW has suddenly dumped big time (arguably time to go long if you can watch) and of course FTSE has followed suit

Stan - 08 Feb 2016 09:41 - 19992 of 21973

Thanks Alf, It wasn't that I wanted to trade at all but I just wanted and indication of what the foreign markets might be doing, all info gained to try and anticipate what the footsie might be up to when it opens.

Watching the FTSE , worth going long at some point ..

cynic - 08 Feb 2016 09:52 - 19994 of 21973

chuckle ..... well this morning it all opened pretty cheerfully, but now resembles borodino!

HARRYCAT - 08 Feb 2016 09:55 - 19995 of 21973

Someone has been watching War & Peace on a sunday evening!

Stan - 08 Feb 2016 09:56 - 19996 of 21973

Once it dawned on me that the far east are probably celebrating the Chinese new year I decided that I would give the fts a miss until at least lunch time'ish.

jimmy b - 08 Feb 2016 09:57 - 19997 of 21973

This market really is bad ,i suppose it will not recover with the EU ref hanging over us .
Just got to trade the ups and downs if you can get it right .

cynic - 08 Feb 2016 09:57 - 19998 of 21973

absolutely
wonderfully done, though it did entertain me that pierre never lost his glasses except for one brief scene of about 2 minutes!

Claret Dragon - 08 Feb 2016 10:45 - 19999 of 21973

FTSE 100 ın name and value on current projectıon. What now has upset the flıghty one?

jimmy b - 08 Feb 2016 10:49 - 20000 of 21973

I'm long from 5739 .

cynic - 08 Feb 2016 11:08 - 20001 of 21973

it's all a bit fingers x'ed in the present climate, but even if wrong call initially, there's a good chance that it will come right in due course, and quite possibly during the course of the day
