A late-session buying spree allowed the Dow to trim its losses and close off lows, down 46.58 points at 11,002.14. The Nasdaq Composite fell 6.84 points to 2,162.78, while the S&P500 fell 1.44 points to 1,263.85.
In Asia today, the Hang Seng ended the morning down 104.25 points at 15,868.86, while the Nikkei was recently trading down 189.2 points at 15,195.66.
New York's main oil contract, light sweet crude for July delivery, was down 24 cents at $72.26 a barrel from its close of $72.50 in the US overnight. Brent North Sea crude for July delivery was at $70.61, down 20 cents.
