In Asia today, the Nikkei tumbled 179.63 points to 15,734.60, while the Hang Seng ended the morning down 2.55 points at 19,262.77.

The New York Mercantile Exchange's main oil contract, light sweet crude for January delivery, was at $59.24 a barrel, unchanged from closing level in New York Wednesday.
