Took this from another BB.
Iraq oil law to go to parliament next week: minister
1 hour, 9 minutes ago

Iraqi cabinet will present an oil law to parliament next week that aims to lure billions of dollars in foreign investment, the country's oil minister said on Wednesday.

"It will be ready next week to be presented to parliament," Hussain al-Shahristani told reporters in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

He said that all political blocs in the Iraqi parliament had agreed to try to pass the law before the end of May.

About 60 Iraqi parliamentarians and experts began a meeting in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday to discuss the war-torn country's oil law that will give its regions the right to negotiate with global firms on developing oilfields.

In February Iraq's cabinet endorsed the draft oil law, which is awaiting parliament's ratification, regulating how wealth from the country's vast oil reserves will be shared by its ethnic and sectarian groups.

Think i will watch out for further news before making a punt.

so you should and even then it may be wiser to hang fire

Much of the well known fields in lraq were not set on fire by retreating lraqi forces. Many were shelled with American uranium tipped missiles and subsequently contaminated. As reg PET. Now that was a total set up !! During their meteoric rise from 46p to 130 odd p due to the crazies of the investment community thinking they were going to get both the dome and kirkuk fields. Little did they know that the lraqi govt had already asked BP to give 3 fields(inc both PETS targets) their attention . BP FLATLY refused them ,Undoubtadly a political decision but one also based on the state of the fields and safety concerns . So bad was it that at Kirkuk the oil was knee deep over a 2 miles circumference. ..NO major will put a foot in Iraq during the next 5/10 years. l know of Nowegian oufits opperating there but personally i advise everyone to avoid any investment in lraq. l have shocking stats reg. the contamination of both the country of lraq and American forces. AVOID!!!!

Talking of stats the most terrifying one i found out about a week ago was the situ at Ghawar. The biggest oilfield in the world. Since it came into production in the 1930's it has produced 62 billion bbls of sweet crude,ln its heyday it could produce 300,000bblsoe p/d with very low psi .. Last tuesday when routine water injection commenced the Saudis threw 250,000 gallons of water through the field and guess what came out .....Yup u have guessed it . 250,000 gallons of water !!!!!!! Those in the know are aware that once Ghawar dies "conventinal society" as we know it , dies with it ,,,,,,
