Irish bookmaker pays out early on Obama victory
DUBLIN, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Ireland's biggest bookmaker Paddy Power (Dublin: PLS.IR - news) said on Thursday it would pay out early more than 1 million euros ($1.35 million) on bets that Barack Obama will be the next U.S. president, three weeks ahead of the election.

I for one do not agree. I think many have feelings about a black president that they may not like to express in public.
The Dublin-based bookmaker said it made the 'unprecedented decision' to pay on bets taken so far, following Wednesday's final campaign debate between Obama and his Republican rival John McCain, which polls judged the Democrat to have won.

'We declare this race well and truly over and congratulate all those who backed Obama,' Power said.

'Although he seemed a little out of sorts in last night's final debate we believe he has done more than enough to get him across the line on November 4.'

The bookmaker said the overall betting trend had shown 'one- way traffic' for the Illinois senator since the start of the summer, with odds shortening to 1-9, meaning a bet of 9 euros is required to make 1 euro profit.

Power said it had taken more than 10,000 bets on the 2008 U.S. presidential election,

Paddy Power has not been as generous as my seem.his liabilities on the early Obama payout would not exceed more than 100.000 which he will more than get back from laying John McCainA good result!and a good gesture?making money while promoting the name with free advertising used as news! If Paddy Power has to pay out on both.highly unlikelyHe has paid a small fraction over the odds on his good name advertising. Pretty much a win win!

I dont think John McCain has much chance of victoryhe is now in his seventies and has a history of serious illnesshis career has proved him to be brave and commendable he would be my choicethe Bush grew before the Cain unfortunately. Not impossible though!

Would this have helped McCain? Why is Obama regarded as black when his mother is white. I heard a black guy - Will Smith, refer to Obama as coming from the slave class. Wrong again - his family came from Africa as a choice. He is just an immigrant.

With all the fuss over Obama, it must be realised that 46% of the US did not vote for him. Had the banking crisis not blown up just before the election, then McCain would almost certainly be the President.

The answer is if Obama is regarded as white because his mother was white then the media wouldn't have anything to write about. Is Obama black or white or simply a human being and elected president of the united states?
