New Note feature for Stockwatch

MoneyAM is pleased to announce that it has now added a new Notes feature to the Stockwatch service.

This new feature allows you to add up to 3 Notes columns next to any of the stocks you have in any of your watchlists. You can add anything you want, from a simple reminder to a note on what price you would like to buy or sell at.

You will automatically have 1 note column added to any existing and new watchlists you have.

To use the Notes feature, simple go to Stockwatch, and click on edit watchlist (if this is your first time using Stockwatch, you will automatically be taken to an edit page).

Under the Column Display and Order heading, you will see in the Hidden Columns section Note 2 and Note 3, and in the Shown Column Section Note 1.

To add Note 2 and/or Note 3 to your watchlist, simply click on it and then press the single arrow pointing to the right. To remove any or all of the note columns from your watchlists simply do the opposite.

To start using the Note service, simply click on the Add Note text in your watchlist next to the stock you want to edit (you can see in the screen shot that we have already added a note called test note at the top of the list).

This will bring up a text box (shown below) in which you can add a title (which will be displayed in the watchlist), and the full note (which will be displayed when you access the note from the watchlist).

Once you have added the note, simply click Save Note the note will now show in the watchlist. To access it click on the note itself, and this will bring up the full text you entered, which you can then delete, amend or leave it as it was.

We are sure you will find this new tool a great help, allowing you to add further information to your Watchlists as and when you need to.

Best regards,

MoneyAM

Very handy, thanks.

jeez, is that progress? How about L2 rns indication, how about an indication that a 2nd rns has come thru on watchlist/L2, what about accurate trade type info on L2, etc, etc. Sorry but a note facility is just pathetic, we know at what level we want to buy or sell, if anyone needs a note to that effect then they need to stop trading/investing.
If you want to improve the service listen to your customers and not just do what is easy.
Heres hoping

ducatiman,

as you will see we are slowly making general improvements across the site, with the home page, bulletin boards and now this notes facility. All the points you have raised have been noted previously for development, and we will work our way towards that - apologies if we are a not as speedy as you would like, but we will get there,

Ian

Personally, I find the note facility useful. It's a big assumption to think that people are using it to enter buy and sell levels - I use it for entering upcoming dates - I have it all in a shared Google diary as well, but it's useful to have the dates on the screen in front of me while I'm watching prices as a reminder for me to possibly not trade certain stocks.

I'm not MoneyAM's biggest fan. When it was in beta it was so exciting to think we had a site that was going to be the polar opposite of what ADVFN had become - which was stagnant and, more importantly, unpleasant towards its customers. Development at MoneyAM was going on and a number of us put forward suggestions for improvements in those early day - I myself mentioned the L2 RNS indication and the possibility of using an RNS/AFX time field rather than the infamously only-useful-once 'N' icon on the stockwatch lists, just like Nothing Ventured had. I even uploaded Nothing Ventured screen shots. Nothing Ventured? Yes that's how long ago it was - seven years. So I suggested a number of improvements and the were all added to 'the list' which I later often referred to as '/dev/null' - a sort of IT in-joke. I was disappointed that MoneyAM quickly stagnated, but I had to be pragmatic about it - I presume that it just couldn't be justified financially. I'm not privy to MoneyAM's numbers, but ADVFN hardly suggests this is a hugely profitable business to be in. Unlike ADVFN, MoneyAM were at least always polite - well, almost always anyway - so we just had to live with it, but was I satisfied? No, of course not, but I couldn't necessarily blame MoneyAM if they couldn't make the numbers work.

The note field and the increased margins came a bit out of the blue. It's a bit like being a volcanologist witnessing an extinct volcano unexpectedly come back to life. It's quite exciting but I don't know what to make of it. I don't know who MoneyAM are talking to in implementing these changes - maybe only themselves - but the feedback on the note field seems largely positive. It can be hidden so it shouldn't adversely affect those who don't want it. I'm not so sure about the increased margins - nobody really ever likes increased margins :-)

I agree that in an ideal world there are probably more useful things to do, but then if the mythical 'list' really still exists, perhaps these are things that have been requested. The years where the core products saw no development is more than unfortunate in my book, I believe we could have made this site far better - quite possibly with commensurate financial consequences, but it's water under the bridge at this point. MoneyAM made their call on that. I don't think it's productive to attack MoneyAM when they may be finally showing some signs of moving forward. I have seven years of frustration with this site built up, but let's give them a chance.

edit: Ian replied while I was typing my essay and apparently the list does exist, and it sounds like they have a plan :-)

IanT, thanks for the reply, this is my 3rd year with moneyam, subs due in May I believe. These same improvements were highlighted when I first joined and I was told to "watch this space". So, no, it is not as speedy as I would have liked.
Kyoto, my post should not be regarded as an attack but as customer feedback and I note you agree with the requests.
Fingers crossed they will get there soon, surely it can`t be that difficult or expensive?
Regards, duc, an ongoing customer, :-)

One thing that may be worth pointing out (if I may, Ian) is that quite a significant upgrade in software technology has been carried out "under the hood". This was necessitated in part by adding things like the notes field to the streaming stockwatch.

The IT savvy among you will understand that this is a thankless but necessary task which, unfortunately, doesn't always immediately result in visible benefits to the user but without which it would be difficult to add or upgrade features.
