News Headlines: BT ANNOUNCE NEW PRICING STRUCTURE - CABLE & WIRELESS ANNOUNCES NEW CEO Markets made gains this evening when Sadam Hussein failed to turn up for his live TV appearance fuelling speculation he was injured or dead. An American Airlines flight from Tokyo landed in San Jose, California, and was surrounded on the tarmac by emergency vehicles because at least four people on board complained of having symptoms similar to the SARS virus. So far more than 1,600 cases of the illness have been reported worldwide, with 64 deaths. Airlines really are having a tough time and this could well lead to further falls on BAY. Ex dividend day with the best prospects highlighted below. Cable and Wireless announces the appointment of Francesco Caio as its new Chief Executive Officer. Graham Wallace will immediately relinquish the role of Chief Executive and will leave the Board on 4 April. He will be available to the new CEO during an interim handover period. The terms of his departure remain under discussion. SkyePharma promised "significant growth" in 2003 profits as income from its drug partnerships gathers pace. They announced a pre-tax profit of 1.3 million pounds compared with a 9.4 million loss in 2001. .Analyst forecasts had ranged from 0.2-1.3 million pounds. A big shake up in the Telecom sector with BT challenging its fixed-line competitors head-on by offering customers national evening and weekend calls up to 20 times cheaper than its major rivals. Customers will pay just 6p for up to an hour on all evening and weekend calls made to anywhere in the UK. If the number is one nominated under the Friends and Family scheme, the cost of the call will be reduced by an extra 10 per cent. This new pricing war will probably be bad for players in the sector such as ntl, Telewest, One.Tel, SkyTalk, Carphone Warehouse BT price will probably rise on the news but it may seriously affect its margins as its competitors respond. I will be looking to short after any strong gains. |
