Bulletin Board E mail Feature (BB)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 23 Apr 2003 14:49

Ladies and Gents,

I have had a few questions about this so I thought I would post and clarify.

If you want to contact someone using the MoneyAM bulletin board E mail private E mail facility, all you need to do is click on the username of that person.

If they have enabled the facility, all you need to do is click the send message button. Some users will not have this faciltiy enabled and therefore cannot be contacted using this.

If you receive a message from a fellow poster, it will originate from a moneyam.com E mail address and therefore if you wish to reply to them you will have to do it via the website and not by hitting reply. If you simply reply to the message it will not be directed to it's intended recipient.

I hope this makes sense to you all,

Ian

FYI: a repost of my original:

Folks, if you register a valid email address in your profile (hit the "User Settings" button on the right near the top), other BB users can send you private emails WITHOUT YOUR HAVING TO POST OR OTHERWISE PUBLISH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS REMAINS SECRET.

Somebody who wants to mail you just clicks on your nickname and they are shown the public part of your profile only (whatever you've elected to register) but not your email address. If you supplied an email address, the sender is asked if he/she wishes to send a private message. Pressing the button gets the sender a dinky little text box and "Send" and "Cancel" buttons.

The message is sent to the recipient's email address and looks like this:

To: undisclosed-recipients:;

From: Administrator (bulletinboard@moneyam.com)
To: Derek Lambert (derek.lambert@*******.com)
Subject: Private Message from Martini

The following message was sent by: Martini

The recipient can only reply using the same messaging system, so they never learn your email address (unless you tell them in the text of the message).
