R1 4303.6
PP 4268.6
S1 4245.5
S2 4222.4

Close was above Wed pp after loosing 2.8pts in the auction, still trading in the upper FIB range but has closed beneath the 3yr downtrend after a brief blip above! Close is virtually on my 60min sig line but still above my LT sig line so a hard call, down to Yahoo results so news based for direction! Dow jones has still not given a sell sig as I write at 9641!

Updated 10/8 for Thursday's market.
Key DOW Levels for 10/9
UP Above 9,675
DN Below 9,535

Trading Range
Dow stays within wide range, hold beneath Resistance.

From prior commentary, "...The fact that the index has gotten an upside break from a bullish pennant consolidation implies a likely continuation higher in the medium term...However, the Dow must break through resistance at 9,700 before significant upside is seen..."
The Dow trended slightly lower today, but continues to hold within the boundaries of the wide trading range that has formed from 9,535 to 9,675, seen in both the 15 and 60 Minute Charts.

Looking at the 60 Minute Chart shows that the Dow continues to hold beneath the solid 9,675 resistance level, which is hindering further upside potential at this time. If the index can get the upside break through resistance at 9,675, more upside is very likely in the medium term.

Conversely, a downside break from the trading range at 9,535 could spark a steep sell-off within the wider trading range that has formed from 9,230 to 9,675, seen in the 60 Minute Chart. Given that the Dow has halted its advance at resistance, a downside break is implied. Watch the range closely tomorrow: 9,535 down, and 9,675 up.

Short Term Dow

Short term, the Dow has formed a nice, tight triangle consolidation at the highs of the 1 Minute Chart. Watch 9,625 for a downside break, and 9,635 for an upside break to decipher direction at the Open.

Medium Term Dow

In the medium term, we are still Long the Dow from 9,381 and will hold stops at 9,550 to lock in 169 points of profit. We will stay Long above 9,675 and will look for Shorts below 9,535, with 10 point stops.

NASDAQ & S&P

The NASDAQ continues to trade within the boundaries of its upward-sloping consolidation, while the S&P is mulling around within its range. Watch for the NASDAQ to push higher alongside the S&P until the lower trend line is violated. *

Summary

The Dow pulled back slightly off the highs today, but continues to trade mostly sideways within the trading range that has formed at the highs of the current uptrend. Watch the boundaries of the range tomorrow, as a solid break through either will likely spark a solid move. Watch 9,535 down, and 9,675 up.

Just sold MTN matalan - 21% up on purchase...good but not the 25% I hoped for, but I ran out of nerve to hold on for further rises due to concerns about possible falls. This game ain't good for our nerves/blood pressure people!! Off for a carrot, have a good afternoon! SB
