I have been in discussion with Felix (Moneyam) about a problem (as I see it) with valuations within my portfolio. We cannot reach agreement and I have been asked to start a thread to hear anybody else's views.
The problem is within the MoneyAM Portfolio, under 'Portfolio Transactions' and the 'Today' column. As I see it this column should relect the individual share price and value movement for today and today ONLY. So if the share price of an individual share doesn't move the profit or loss for today should be 0.
The portfolio doesn't work like that. It subtracts the commission every day under the 'Today' heading! So, for example, a zero movement in price produces a loss equivolent to the commission in the today column and it does this every day!
For example. I buy 5000 shares in ABC company on Monday for 1 each. Commission is 25.
Tuesday the price doesn't do anything. The portfolio shows a paper loss for Tuesday of 25. *(I think it should show 0 for the day)
Wednesday the share price rises 5p. The portfolio shows a paper profit of 225 ie 250 - 25. (I think it should show +250 for the day)
Thursday the price doesn't move. The portfolio shows the share has lost 25 for the day (I think it should show 0).
And so on and so on......
The MoneyAM team seem to think this is how it should be but I disagree. I think that the commission should only be taken into account in the 'Total' column.
What do you all think?

I believe when valueing it should also be only based on the bid price and not the mid. This is also giving false values.I think the same as you if nothing moves it should remain constant and not reduce as a commision charge.

Agree with both.the true value is the bid value as in forced sale that is more like what you will get.If share has a wide spread the difference could be quite a lot and anything only becomes a profit when its in my hands.(ie sold and paid for)
