Eurotunnel worth buying today? (ETL)

javidshaik - 15 Oct 2003 09:34

Looking at Eurotunnel this morning and am considering buying as they have started rising but I am worried about their recent news. Could I please get some views on this stock?

I must admit it does look that the small investor thinks it has hit bottom.

Personally I think it still has a way to drop. The problems in France have not been resolved and until it is I'm not sure if the institutional investors will support ETL's price until it is over.

STRANGE!

Total Buy 1,719,556
Total Sell 287,373

Price keeps on dropping!

Why does this happen?

Any comments?

The price is dropping because there are only 5 MM looking to buy a total of 107,400 shares at a price between 48.5-49.77 and 10 looking to sell 592,481 shares at a price between 50.25 - 51.5

As long as the sell orders exceed the buy orders by such a large amount, it will struggle to go back up.

An additional sell order for 50K shares @ 50p has just gone up

Thanks,

So

Total Buy 1,719,556
Total Sell 287,373

On the list of trades is not really much use then.

Where did you get the MM info?

I have Level 2

Eurotunnel....will they ever really make that much money whilst flying is cheaper, quicker and more convenient.

I recently had to go to Paris and so price up both options. That is to go via Eurotunnel or by plane. The plane won hands down.

I sure there is more to it than that, but the basics don't put the stock in buy list.

I certainly wouldn't buy the stock. What's it really got going for it? Someone please tell me?

little woman - 10 Nov 2003 17:06 - 9 of 29

Eurotunnel makes money on freight & Lorries, which is where they beat flying hands down.

ajren - 10 Nov 2003 17:52 - 10 of 29

Terrorism ???

optomistic - 10 Nov 2003 18:19 - 11 of 29

ajren,
yes you could be right, no doubt both we and the French must? have extreme security measures in place but then how come so many illegal immigrants manage to find their way past these precautions. I would rather fly!

little woman - 10 Nov 2003 18:43 - 12 of 29

ajren & optomistic, you've hit Eurotunnels problems on the nail. Their future is in freight & lorries, not people - but the two items you mention are what are holding back eurotunnels increase in volumes. What is going through is at capacity, but not enough is going through due to delays caused by the two areas you mention.

They are starting work on a third tunnel, to increase capacity and in turn volumes, but it's a slow process.

One suicide bomber

apple - 10 Nov 2003 21:32 - 14 of 29

Thanks LW

ajren, the fire in the tunnel was far more devastating than what a bomber could do & the tunnel withstood that.

It would take a nuke to let the water in.

1 tunnel was out of action for a while & both tunnels were soon up & running again.

What caused most delays were the arguments about firefighting procedures.

Price (& orders) have improved on yesterday if you are looking to buy!

apple - 11 Nov 2003 12:46 - 16 of 29

Will go lower for a while yet I think.

Until the legal stuff in France is over.

little woman - 11 Nov 2003 12:52 - 17 of 29

I think I said something simular the last time it went down - and it went back up! I try to learn for my actions! Picked a few up earlier, my breakeven is 48.75p will take profit about 55p.

roma - 29 Dec 2003 18:17 - 18 of 29

Anyone got any thoughts on this one now? I have just gone in at 38.75p. I'm hoping that is ready to start climbing back off the bottom, seems a fair risk at this price.

little woman - 29 Dec 2003 18:23 - 19 of 29

I ended up selling at I think just over 51p before the latest fall (It kept going to 51p and then droped back over & over, and I got fed up watching it - and a profit is a profit!).

Bought a small amount today at 38.75 for my medium term portfolio as you say - pretty cheap!

happy to watch - 29 Dec 2003 20:30 - 20 of 29

Only problem with this being "pretty cheap" is a small matter of 7.1bn debt. Not sure what the interest component details are on the various government loans and bonds that have been issued to fund the company but one thing is for sure, this time next year interest rates will be higher than today and debt repayments will be put under pressure as a result. Don't get caught out thinking we have a bargain on our hands. Fundamentals of this company remain pretty dire in the medium term. For gamblers only but good luck if you are long.

little woman - 29 Dec 2003 20:50 - 21 of 29

only a small amount - small enough to lose and it won't make a difference!
