In the UK Leading shares closed weaker but off session lows Tuesday as Wall Street sported a good morning rally following the release of better than expected US consumer confidence data, which offset opening caution ahead of tomorrow's US interest rate decision.
At the close, the FTSE 100 index was 6.3 points lower at 4,512.4, well off of a late morning low of 4,492.1 but having stayed weak all session.
The broader FTSE indices ended mixed, with the FTSE 250 and Techmark 100 indices managing to push into positive territory.
Volume was moderate, with 2.6 bln shares changing hands in 196,882 deals.
US stocks were lifted by the positive US consumer confidence report which offset worries ahead of news tomorrow from the latest FOMC meeting which is widely expected to sanction a 25-basis point hike in US interest rates.
US consumer confidence improved sharply in June to the highest level in two years, according to the Conference Board, with the index rising to 101.9, up from 93.1 in May.
Economists were looking for a much smaller gain to about 95.
The open market committee meeting is expected to lead to the first interest rate hike in four years. An announcement is expected at about 2:15 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced about 56 points to 10,413, while the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 15 points to 2,034 close to the day high
The S&P 500 index added 2.88 points 1,136.41.
Continuing declines in oil prices, which went to a two-month low, teamed with the spending number to stoke interest in equities.
So all eyes turn to the FOMC Monetary Policy Announcement.
25% looks a done deal but will they surprise and how will the market react what ever the decision?
Good hunting

Thought about it, but will probably leave it for now. Don't want to get involved with something else whilst still playing with SEAQ's here - been trading them for about a year now. Will probably have a go eventually.
