Traders Thread - Friday 18th February (TRAD)

Greystone - 17 Feb 2005 20:04

Greystone - 17 Feb 2005 20:04 - 2 of 11

Hello traders!

The US market continues to trade at lower levels as buyers remain reluctant to come out of their shells...

The Dow was last down 43 points with the Nasdaq 16 points light and the S&P500 5.38 off the pace.

See you in the morning with the UK news.....

Sleep tight!

G.

Greystone - 18 Feb 2005 06:31 - 3 of 11

Good morning traders!

US indices opened on a downbeat note following a mixed batch of economic data, earnings reports and guidance, but closed even lower in the wake of Greenspan's reaffirmation of further rate hikes.

As expected, the Fed Chairman's remarks to the House Financial Services Committee essentially replicated yesterday's testimony to the Senate, which reiterated that a drop in yields on longer-maturity bonds since rate hikes began in June 2004 is a "conundrum".

The Dow closed down 80.62 points at 10,754.26 with the Nasdaq Composite 26.09 points lower at 2,061.34 and the S&P500 9.59 points lighter at 1,200.75.

Asian markets seem unperturbed with both the Hang Seng and Nikkei comfortably ahead when I last checked this morning.

Back soon with some UK news.....

Happy trading!

G.

Paulo2 - no offence! ;-)) I can sometimes be a bit flippant early on.

Seriously, I was told a while back that a decent trader always has their eye on the news before open. There's money to be made. I never jump on everything, but you do get the odd one that really flies. Hate getting up in the winter so early, though. ;-)
