A rock 'n roll night in the US sees the Dow last down 2 points at 10,511, returning to negative territory, erasing intraday gains of as much as 76.53 points. The Dow had been down as much as 38.25 points during early trading hours prior to its intraday rally.
The Nasdaq Composite rose 2 points to 2,065 after climbing as high as 2,078.26 in early trading and the S&P500 put in a fractional gain at 1,198.68.
Crude was sharply higher, the benchmark July contract up $2.08 at $55.62 a barrel in New York trading.
In New York last night, the Dow closed 9.93 ahead at 10,522.56 with the Nasdaq 5.96 better at 2,068.96 and the S&P500 2.71 points stronger at 1,200.82. Volume was light.
In Asia, Hong Kong has closed the morning session down 12.34 points at 13,939.68 but Tokyo was trading ahead 31.03 points at 11,342.54.
Crude oil prices eased a little in Asia, having spiked higher in the US last night.
