US stock prices closed sharply lower tonight, their first significant decline of the year so far.
The Dow industrials closed down 81 points at 10,962.36. The S&P500 was 8.12 points lower at 1,286.06 and the Nasdaq Composite down 14.67 points at 2,316.69.
In Asia today, the Nikkei closed just 9.76 points up at 16,454.95, while the Hang Seng ended the morning down a mere 5.29 points at 15,714.08.
The oil price weakened with New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in February, down 21 cents at $63.73 a barrel from its close of $63.94 in the US.
