FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Indeed cynic.

cynic - 15 Feb 2016 09:56 - 20129 of 21973

as i'm out for most of the next 2 days, i have decided to bank a very nice 100 points from FTSE ....... i can now watch sufficiently to re-enter the fray should i so choose

Stan - 15 Feb 2016 10:03 - 20130 of 21973

i have a small dow long running ..... it's currently modestly in the money and have no intention of getting greedy

overall, a good day for me with ANTO going great guns and one or two others not doing badly either

Claret Dragon - 16 Feb 2016 06:23 - 20134 of 21973

Had my cuppa. Now what!!!!!!!

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 07:53 - 20135 of 21973

Chill.

cynic - 16 Feb 2016 08:38 - 20136 of 21973

closed DOW long last night as i thought a pause for breath or slight retreat was on the cards
clearly not so just yet! ...... never mind

jimmy b - 16 Feb 2016 08:49 - 20137 of 21973

Is that it ?

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 10:15 - 20138 of 21973

50+ Fts faded out at the mo.

Chris Carson - 16 Feb 2016 10:18 - 20139 of 21973

Keep an eye on gold. Not a good day for UKX so far.

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 10:25 - 20140 of 21973

Any particular reason CC? Fts down yes or dollar weakening perhaps.

Chris Carson - 16 Feb 2016 10:30 - 20141 of 21973

Just watching the correlation between the two charts and Dow futures, good for scalping. Fingers crossed US Cavalry arrives 2.30pm

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 10:33 - 20142 of 21973

Cheers.

From Skinny's midday update:

London shares' early gains were all but erased come midday as the price of crude tapered. Safe-haven gold firmed, but key UK gilt yields were flat. This as European bourses were mixed. Leisure and oil stocks rose, but miners reversed south. Vodafone (VOD) was in focus.

Been in and out of FTSE all day , i'm expecting it to come off a bit more after the bell.
