FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Keep an eye on gold. Not a good day for UKX so far.

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 10:25 - 20140 of 21973

Any particular reason CC? Fts down yes or dollar weakening perhaps.

Chris Carson - 16 Feb 2016 10:30 - 20141 of 21973

Just watching the correlation between the two charts and Dow futures, good for scalping. Fingers crossed US Cavalry arrives 2.30pm

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 10:33 - 20142 of 21973

Cheers.

Oil comıng off hıghs. Appears to be the drıver for every move.

Fred1new - 16 Feb 2016 12:05 - 20144 of 21973

Inflation figures!

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 12:32 - 20145 of 21973

No idear, so taken profit.

From Skinny's midday update:

London shares' early gains were all but erased come midday as the price of crude tapered. Safe-haven gold firmed, but key UK gilt yields were flat. This as European bourses were mixed. Leisure and oil stocks rose, but miners reversed south. Vodafone (VOD) was in focus.

Been in and out of FTSE all day , i'm expecting it to come off a bit more after the bell.

Stan - 16 Feb 2016 16:29 - 20148 of 21973

Funny isn't it I feel a bit more positive this week and thought it might go forward a bit more, but who knows that's why I'm not holding over night.

cynic - 16 Feb 2016 18:05 - 20149 of 21973

am amazed to see DOW fast recovery
wonder what triggered that?
anyway, shall now keep an eye for ~16,230 and a point at which to short

cynic - 16 Feb 2016 19:27 - 20150 of 21973

crude is looking fragile once more, so i am even more surprised by the strength of both dow and ftse
long may it last, but it really does have something of a dreamlike quality to it

cynic - 17 Feb 2016 07:49 - 20151 of 21973

FTSE still trying to defy gravity

Stan - 17 Feb 2016 07:57 - 20152 of 21973

fts to finish up on the day.. that's not a prediction just a guess.

cynic - 17 Feb 2016 08:09 - 20153 of 21973

DOW was kind to me last night and i managed to bank 45 points on a short
i'm now looking to short FTSE, but not sure from what level

Claret Dragon - 17 Feb 2016 10:11 - 20154 of 21973

50dma Mıght be a reasonable shout

jimmy b - 17 Feb 2016 14:21 - 20155 of 21973

That's me out of a FTSE long , has it any further to go ?

Claret Dragon - 17 Feb 2016 14:37 - 20156 of 21973

400 odd poınts ın 5 sessıons ıs good goıng.

cynic - 17 Feb 2016 14:42 - 20157 of 21973

arguably not much jimmy, but we all know how crazily the markets are currently behaving

jimmy b - 17 Feb 2016 14:48 - 20158 of 21973

Unfortunately i only took 62 points which made up for a short i was stopped out of .
Despite the 400 point move up i havn't done very well on the FTSE of late .
That's the trouble i'm inclined to go short again but your right the markets are crazy .
