Afren today announces that Eni Ghana exploration and production Ltd. ("Eni"), operator of the Keta block which is located in the Volta River Basin offshore Eastern Ghana, has commenced drilling of the Nunya-1X (formerly named Cuda-2) exploration well with the Marianas semi-submersible drilling rig. The Nunya prospect is a four-way dip closed structure with a primary reservoir target comprising Upper Cretaceous deep-marine fan sandstones that are analogous to those that have yielded significant discoveries elsewhere along the West Africa Transform Margin.

Following the farm out in 2011 of a 35 per cent participating interest in the Keta block and transfer of operatorship to Eni, Afren has a 35 per cent participating interest in the block.

Afren's 10-month update - which was issued in connection with a proposed offering of senior secured notes - showed operating profits of $160.5m to the end of October against $94.6m in the comparable period of 2010.

Revenues rose to $404.0m from $298.9m and pre-tax profits from continuing activities increased to $132.7m from $78.5m.

this is one of my faves, but the going now gets tough and then tougher ..... first obstacle is 150, but then there is a lot of congestion between 150 and 170

I didn't think the figures were outstanding, which is why i sold some. We'll have a better view of what the market thinks tomorrow.,.

Golden cross coming. Then boom! Not selling any til at least £2.00

It won't be a true GC for which both MAs should be rising, on this occasion the 200 will probably still be pointing marginally South. There is also a good chance that the SP will retrace to the GC when formed before resuming it's upward trend.

JP Morgan Cazenove also published a note today on the oil exporation and production sector and has highlighted key wells and catalysts to look out for in the first half of this year.

Analyst Jessica Saadat said that in the investment bank's opinion, Afren (LON:AFR), Ophir (LON:OPHR), Genel (LON:OPHR) and Tullow (LON:TLW) offered investors the most interesting drilling campaigns this year.

However, she said that with Tullow, she believed much of the exploration success was already priced in, and following the recent share price run, JP Morgan Cazenove downgraded the stock to "neutral".

The analyst said that her preferred name remained Afren, although the investment bank said it continued to like Genel (LON:GENL) and SOCO (LON:SIA). It has also upgraded Enquest to overweight from "neutral" because of its valuation, which "now looks more attractive", it said.
