rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Been in and out of FTSE all day , i'm expecting it to come off a bit more after the bell.

Funny isn't it I feel a bit more positive this week and thought it might go forward a bit more, but who knows that's why I'm not holding over night.

am amazed to see DOW fast recovery
wonder what triggered that?
anyway, shall now keep an eye for ~16,230 and a point at which to short

crude is looking fragile once more, so i am even more surprised by the strength of both dow and ftse
long may it last, but it really does have something of a dreamlike quality to it

DOW was kind to me last night and i managed to bank 45 points on a short
i'm now looking to short FTSE, but not sure from what level

Unfortunately i only took 62 points which made up for a short i was stopped out of .
Despite the 400 point move up i havn't done very well on the FTSE of late .
That's the trouble i'm inclined to go short again but your right the markets are crazy .

FTSE is certainly challenging 6,000 but whether or not it will breach and hold remains to be seen
DOW has the potential to go at least a couple of 00 points higher, but wouldn't want to back that either!

Indicators are all still heading south, lower highs, lower lows on both FTSE & DOW. The trend is clear, imo.

Great, just trade them then if the moves are big enough.
