spaceman
Why not stick them all on an Ipod and dump the CD's

hilary - 03 Dec 2004 08:19 - 20202 of 23498

May I ask a question please? My son wants an MP3 player for Crimbo and I know nothing about them. Do they take SD cards, or are the songs stored on the memory within the player?

hilary - 03 Dec 2004 08:21 - 20203 of 23498

And also can you convert normal audio CD's to MP3 format?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 03 Dec 2004 08:21 - 20204 of 23498

hilary,

They are stored on a hard drive within the player as far as I am aware

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 03 Dec 2004 08:21 - 20205 of 23498

hilary,

Yes you can convert but you will need software to do this.

Ian

hilary - 03 Dec 2004 08:23 - 20206 of 23498

OK, thanks Ian. He's got Nero ...... do you happen to know if Nero does this?

daves dazzlers - 03 Dec 2004 08:31 - 20207 of 23498

Hilary mp3s are old school.

Spaceman - 03 Dec 2004 08:35 - 20208 of 23498

Jeffmack,
because even at the highest quality music stored on an ipod is far inferior to cd's, I do have an ipod but there is no way I would get rid of my CD's.

hilary,
most use either solid state memory but some like the ipod and iriver use hard disks, i think there is one that uses both. The ipod (apple) is still regarded by mosts as the best.

Yes you can and most of the MP3 (or ipod as it does not normally use MP3 format) players provide their own software for soing this.

You wont go far wrong with the apple ipod.

hilary - 03 Dec 2004 08:47 - 20209 of 23498

Thanks Space. I didn't want anything too expensive as he'll take it to school and you can imagine what school kids are like on the bus with their mobile phones and other gadgets! There was a girl the other day who asked if she could look at the mobile phone belonging to a friend of my son's. She then legged it off the bus with the phone, never to be seen again.

Why do you say that MP3's are old school, Dazzling D?

Spaceman - 03 Dec 2004 08:51 - 20210 of 23498

hils, MP3 is just a storage format, there are others that are better but mp3 is fine for portable devices for most people. Some of the newer formats allow better quality and more flexability in how music in encoded.

sorry just noticed that question was aimed at DD.

daves dazzlers - 03 Dec 2004 08:58 - 20211 of 23498

There like phones & trainers H ,when a new product comes to the market place its street cred with the kids.

The nike psa 220 mp3 is one of the best now , i think there about 150 or the ipod 20 gb about 50 quid more,if you know what i mean.

jeffmack - 03 Dec 2004 09:01 - 20212 of 23498

DD
I'm sure you must know a man who can get them cheap

hilary - 03 Dec 2004 09:07 - 20213 of 23498

Jeffie,

Do you think they actually use GB Sterling on Merseyside ........ or do they just barter in hubcaps?

Thanks, btw, Dazzling D.
