Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

MaxK - 12 Mar 2016 12:17 - 203 of 12628

He's a bum sniffer Stan.

So far up Dave's, he's almost invisible.

Stan - 12 Mar 2016 12:22 - 204 of 12628

Most of them are Max, how people can't see it is beyond me.

Fred1new - 12 Mar 2016 13:05 - 205 of 12628

Max,

One shouldn't expect to have honest figures from a party of neo-fascists neocons.

They have falsifying economic figures, employment figures and immigrant figures for years.

But, I suppose you get what you wish or voted for.

Neil Woodford, UK star fund manager, is an OUT:

9bn reduction in EU contributions for a start.

He also says, that even in the worst case scenario, potential trade tariffs of around 4%, fall well within the normal range of exchange rate movements.

There might be a hit to London commercial property prices from a Brexit as fewer firms see London as a 'gateway to Europe' but to off-set that we would be freer to do more trade deals elsewhere as non-EU companies find much less beaurocracy in their negotiations with us.

Overall, economic reasons give a 'nil sum' game result.

IMHO, the EU is only a 'political game'. To hell with it! There's even a big sign in our local outdoor town market saying: "Vote Out!"

dreamcatcher - 12 Mar 2016 21:57 - 207 of 12628

My views if the exit vote wins. I feel Europe will fall into recession . Portugal along with Greece and Italy are heading for major problems in the next few months, With Germany the only power house left to bail them out. I see the public of Germany saying enough is enough. Massive pressure is bearing down on living standards.
The European banking system is carrying just too much debt. Most of the Eu countries
have nothing in place or indeed be able too afford to jack up their banks . They are too heavy in debt and will be unable to pay back loans.

There will be massive repercussions if Europe collapses by us leaving or collapsing still by recession with us still in. (take your choices, just how can it survive ?)
We will be affected by Eurozone troubles, with us in or out. You do not pick up new trade overnight. The stock markets will buckle.

What a mess. Most of the blame from me goes to Germany, a halt should of been called years ago.

A massive shock coming to our living standards, lets face it we are going to be a lot poorer than today.

I am of a similar opinion although I think it will play out slightly differently. I think it is ultimately a doomed experiment. They have gone for monetary union with the Euro before fiscal and political union. There is no overall controlling mechanism that can keep individual economies under control. That was evident in Greece where tax payment is optional.

dreamcatcher - 13 Mar 2016 08:01 - 209 of 12628

Going to be interesting after any result for the future of the eu.

jimmy b - 13 Mar 2016 09:14 - 210 of 12628

Bloody hell DC your cheerful this morning !

Fred1new - 13 Mar 2016 09:21 - 211 of 12628

It is alright boys, Osborne will blame any recessions on the World Economy, not his own incompetence.

Strange how phantasy economics are what suits your case.

dreamcatcher - 13 Mar 2016 09:41 - 212 of 12628

Not much to be cheerful for at the moment jimmy b. :-((

dreamcatcher - 13 Mar 2016 09:42 - 213 of 12628

They are all the same Fred. :-))

Am I getting this right ?, the Scottish independents say that a new Scottish referendum is inevitable if the UK votes to opt out ! : so all those that want Scottish independence will vote to leave Europe perhaps, and then when we are out of Europe the Scots will have a referendum about remaining in the UK....and then when Scotland have left the UK : they will rejoin Europe and the Euro by the backdoor......have to admire Sturgeon and this what seems if not fishy: a dastardly cunning plan....not even Blackadder could have thought that one up !....

MaxK - 13 Mar 2016 10:31 - 215 of 12628

Works for the outs though rf.

Double whammy, us out of €uropa, and the jocks out of the taxpayers pocket :-)

grannyboy - 13 Mar 2016 11:28 - 216 of 12628

Scotland would have to renegotiate with Brussels, and Brussels would put the exact same conditions that Greece is going through..

Sturgeon was being questioned on the Sunday Politics, and when questioned on this subject, sturgeon got all evasive and rattled.

cynic - 13 Mar 2016 14:42 - 217 of 12628

playing golf today .....
i am tending for out as already posted; 1 x in but without enthusiasm; 1 x out; 1 x undecided but tending towards out

meanwhile, i note fred will blame GO for the collapsing of world economies

dreamcatcher - 13 Mar 2016 20:03 - 218 of 12628

Daily Mail -

German voters' damning verdict on open-door migration: Angela Merkel is punished in crucial state elections as far-Right party wins big vote with call to stop flow of refugees

MaxK - 13 Mar 2016 20:14 - 219 of 12628

It was a good idea, I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Snag: Merkel is leading negotiations with Turkey for free access.

cynic - 14 Mar 2016 08:00 - 220 of 12628

ask bambi, for on his watch 2.3m refugees/immigrants came into uk

Fred1new - 14 Mar 2016 08:47 - 221 of 12628

Do you mean Cameron?

Max.

Be careful what you seem to be wishing for.

A fragmented Europe and its consequences are about the last thing I would hope for

A collapse of the EU will leave minefields and might even rock NATO, which might please Putin no end.

USA wants out, other than for trade.

cynic - 14 Mar 2016 09:03 - 222 of 12628

the eu is in trouble whether uk stays in or not

as i wrote earlier, uk pulling out might just shake the eu legislators out of their smugness and concentrate their little brains on the major reforms that are required
i don't hold out much hope
