THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

it's the steroids that do it!

Greene King bought Ridley's which is not a million miles from Adnams.

Plenty of choice nowadays
As of the end Nov. there were more than 1000 microbreweries in the UK
and rising. There are more than 30 in London,5 of them in Hackney .
So much so that JDW are featuring many of them all over London in
the next two months.
edit.
We are of on the big fish swallowing the smaller again.
Molson Coors swallowed Sharps recently and Franciscan Well in Ireland
(maybe connected to Sharps) was swallowed by a big Co.

cwt?

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:24 - 20331 of 81564

you're too young! ...... oz, lb, st, cwt, ton ...... thus 16 ounce = 1 pound; 14 pounds = 1 stone; 8 stone = 1 hundredweight; 20 hundredweight = 1ton

we could then get into bushels, but that is dangerous ground ...... however, a bushel of corn (i think different with other grains) weighs 56 lbs = 4 stone

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:29 - 20332 of 81564

Sounds better to say my weight is a hundred weight and three quarters.:-))

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:30 - 20333 of 81564

but of course 1 ton should never be confused with wonton or even wanton!

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:34 - 20334 of 81564

Come on do the job, you have mised half the info. :-))

1 bushel of wheat or soybeans = 60 pounds (77.2 Kg./hl.)

1 bu corn = 56 lbs

1 bu barley = 48 lbs

36.74 bushels of wheat = 1 metric ton

33.33 bushels of wheat = 1 short ton

• The metric ton of 2204.6 pounds is the weight unit most widely used in reporting international trade statistics.

• The short ton of 2000 pounds is domestically used in the United States, as well as in some other countries.

• 1 bushel of wheat will make about 73 loaves of white bread, 1 lb. each.

• 2.3 bushels of wheat will make 100 pounds of white flour (72% extraction).

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:38 - 20335 of 81564

when real people were using bushels, soybeans had never been heard of!
nor for that matter had the metric tonne (please note!) nor the short ton (a nasty american imposter aka illegal immigrant!).

in the good old days, if you spoke of a bushel, you meant a bushel of corn - i.e. 56 lbs and thus half cwt!

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:40 - 20336 of 81564

Then we are talking about the American size bushel , now thats a different story. :-))

3 monkies - 18 Jan 2013 17:40 - 20337 of 81564

A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush!! Sorry you were talking about bushels - gin and antiobiotics have impaired my vision haha!! Nice weekend all.

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:41 - 20338 of 81564

So giving you a test, what weighs more a bushel of wheat, barley or oats. No looking up the answer. :-))

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:42 - 20339 of 81564

i don't think we should be talking about birds and bushes here - we'll get banned

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:42 - 20340 of 81564

Thats ok 3m, lol

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:43 - 20341 of 81564

I bet you liked a trim bush.

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:43 - 20342 of 81564

without cheating, i'ld hazard a guess at wheat

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:44 - 20343 of 81564

That reminds me who put that pussy wagon on the I lost my house thread. I would never do a thing like that. :-))

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:45 - 20344 of 81564

Your right, then barley than oats.

cynic - 18 Jan 2013 17:45 - 20345 of 81564

you're getting too frisky ..... go and have a roll in the snow :-)

dreamcatcher - 18 Jan 2013 17:46 - 20346 of 81564
