FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

ACA
yes possibly, though still some headroom to 310 which is the serious resistance

FRES
remains unloved since its results, but perhaps due for a bounce as it has considerable strength in both silver and gold

kirky is the man for this stock, though i think he likes to short it

Where to this week is this a small wobble or are we done with the rise ? i have not traded indices for over a week now .

HARRYCAT - 07 Mar 2016 12:38 - 20335 of 21973

Not a huge amount of important data to come from the diary this week. Thurs is ex-divi day with some big names on the list (BARC, BLT, AV. etc), so unless something unexpected happens, my feeling is that the FTSE & DOW will probably drift.

HARRYCAT - 07 Mar 2016 13:24 - 20336 of 21973

CME Group analyst suggesting $1280 will be the high for gold and is expecting a pullback to circa $1200.

WORLDPAY (WPG)
not a stock i follow, and i don't even know that the company does
however it seems to have returned some cracking figures, but sp has dumped, so it may be that they're worth buying

HARRYCAT - 08 Mar 2016 08:40 - 20338 of 21973

Electronic payment platform. Tricky sector to be in, though they actually turned in a profit for the first time. Not sure why they have turned negative but others in the same sector (PAYS etc) also hit.

Stan - 08 Mar 2016 08:42 - 20339 of 21973

Mega Bus/Train use them, thats about all I know of them, are you saying that they are on the footsie?

HARRYCAT - 08 Mar 2016 08:48 - 20340 of 21973

FTSE 100. Floated at 240p in October 2015.

cynic - 08 Mar 2016 08:58 - 20341 of 21973

2038 - the clue is in the index! ..... very few individual stocks showing blue

Stan - 08 Mar 2016 09:09 - 20342 of 21973

Thanks Harry, and you fish face.. falling for my deliberate mistake again I note -):

HARRYCAT - 08 Mar 2016 09:40 - 20343 of 21973

Carney currently talking on subject of Brexit on Sky News and Bloomberg.

Stan - 08 Mar 2016 09:42 - 20344 of 21973

Bets that's riveting -):

TANKER - 08 Mar 2016 09:44 - 20345 of 21973

hope you are all listening to mark carney . so far he has not answered one question
honestly , he is waffling

jimmy b - 08 Mar 2016 09:44 - 20346 of 21973

Actually it will be interesting to hear what he says ,providing he is totally honest..

TANKER - 08 Mar 2016 09:45 - 20347 of 21973

go to parliament programme and watch

HARRYCAT - 08 Mar 2016 09:49 - 20348 of 21973

He is in a tricky position and having to be very careful. He cannot recommend IN or OUT, but can only assess the pro's and con's of a Brexit on the UK economy.

Refreshing to see at least two people who can produce plain speaking...John Mann & Chris Philp.
Some of the others just cannot stop themselves waffling on.

cynic - 08 Mar 2016 19:52 - 20349 of 21973

bugger
was running a DOW short this evening but just chickened out with a minuscule profit as couldn't watch ......
since when of course it has (already) dumped a further 30 points

HARRYCAT - 08 Mar 2016 21:53 - 20350 of 21973

.

Stan - 09 Mar 2016 14:05 - 20351 of 21973

Still no feel for the market at the moment so will continue to be on a jolly.

cynic - 09 Mar 2016 15:15 - 20352 of 21973

S&P
watch to see if 1980 holds .... it has done for the last few days and acted as a level for a rally
