rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

Looking at DOW futures it should help your short, just below the support of 12800. I was going to open a modest long on FTSE this morning, but have changed my mind to a short after looking at the DOW and Asia.

I know FTSE is stuffed with oilies and miners, but I'm still surprised at how strong it has been when compared with DOW.

Heres hoping to a gentle trending down day.

Well done BHunt I managed to get out of one of my shorts, still the very very short one to go. At least it's heading in the right direction now but for how long?

West I. Texas oil up to $126 and Brent $124....no stopping it at the moment.....something the world can't live without until hydrogen gets going !

This is getting to the stage where the oil price could start to climb in blocks of $5 a go, not just $1 at a time !

My short above still under water - dont know whether to hold it over the weekend - or take the small loss? Decisions, decisions.

About 6.30 bst there was a spike on the Dow of about 100 points - just for a few seconds - and shown on the graph. Does this happen often ? - and would it have taken me out if I had been short on the dow?

Seems a tad strange - almost something done on purpose to take traders out - if thats possible ?
