Dubious sell-off

ellio - 15 May 2006 09:10

The market seems to be selling-off on the back of limited bad news imo, apart from the dollar that is.

If you can hold your nerve and apart from any short term requirements to offload poor performing stocks, I have a couple!!, my advice would be sit tight. This does not have the feel of the tech(mining!) bubble at all. Difference being there are a lot of good fundamentals, unlike in 2000 when there were a lot of over rated nothing companies.

open a spread account, Ive been trading the dow all day 10 points up, 10 points down. Easy money!!

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:07 - 205 of 1564

amazing how you all avoid the question .... lol!
Let's put it another way then ..... Do you think FTSE is likely (a) to hold the current level until after the close or (b) will fall back due to profit-taking or similar?

soul traders - 23 May 2006 16:10 - 206 of 1564

Sorry Cynic, wasn't trying to! Our posts arrived on the list at exactly the same time.

I'm afraid your question is best left to those more experienced than me at gauging the market.

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:20 - 207 of 1564

well I took my life in my hands and, having made some dosh on the way up this morning, I am now making a little more on the other tack! ..... just as the fall was overdone, so is today's rise to some extent, and I am sure there will be quite a lot of peeps locking in some of their recoveries ..... but def shan't be greedy!

Snip - 23 May 2006 16:40 - 208 of 1564

looks bullish, note the last blue candle engulfed by the open candle

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:43 - 209 of 1564

Snip - I don't understand candle charts, so what does that mean

Snip - 23 May 2006 16:46 - 210 of 1564

looks good
look at the bottom macd histogram. See the shorter strip on the right. Looks as though there is a turn on the way

Pommy - 23 May 2006 16:48 - 211 of 1564

Technically Cynic, it means that a number of people have taken a good shafting! ;))))

See that long thing on the right, well whill all those long blue things knocked may people around and finally to the ground, that big long thing came along and delivered a damm good rogering!!

TA - Only for the experts!!! LOL!!!

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:49 - 212 of 1564

I don't disbelieve you; just don't understand the system

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:50 - 213 of 1564

and is a lit candle joyful or painful?

Snip - 23 May 2006 16:52 - 214 of 1564

typical investors board. No wonder the traders don`t often come on here. Can`t have a decent discussion

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:54 - 215 of 1564

ok snip .... presume the blue and red lines are MDAs ... if so, what periods and does the red one form a resistance?

cynic - 23 May 2006 16:58 - 216 of 1564

btw, am also slightly concerned for the morrow that DOW is struggling to break through the psychological 11200 barrier .... It has been stalled just south of it all morning and fear that if no break upwards, then later in the day may see further selling which will knock on here

Iain - 23 May 2006 17:20 - 217 of 1564

Then go Short:-)
Best day for a long time. Thanks to hefty(for me) ukx long from 5515

cynic - 23 May 2006 17:27 - 218 of 1564

I am at the moment at 5684, and watching carefully

Pommy - 23 May 2006 18:03 - 219 of 1564

Wedge forming on the daily dow , could blow big time either way in about 2 hours!!!

If it goes down thru 11160 we could see a 100point fall, which i think is more likely than the alternative which would have to see us breach 11200.

Pommy - 23 May 2006 18:36 - 220 of 1564

Nice, sitting an watching Dow looking to break upwards
shame it never reached my 11160 entry point this time.
Break 11200 and we could go woosh. Will be a nice time to close some longs before the big crash that is coming!!

OIL and GOLD UP
Gonna be a good day tomorrow for minerd and oilers if this holds!!

Pommy - 23 May 2006 18:39 - 221 of 1564

and down she comes again!! tight stop around 11200

Pommy - 23 May 2006 19:03 - 222 of 1564

quick 7 points taken!!

wish this thing would make up its mind!!

cynic - 23 May 2006 19:06 - 223 of 1564

cliff-hanger ain't it! In many ways, i would love to see DOW whizz through that 11200 mark, but so far it has shown absolutely no interest in doing so ..... Menawhile, my FTSE-short is 2p(!) in the money and have set quite a tight stop on it in case it shoots upwards.
