FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

dow all over the place yet again
no idea where it's going

cynic - 05 Apr 2016 16:37 - 20519 of 21973

unless DOW closes below a fairly abitrary 17,600 we could well find ourselves continuing to seesaw within quite a narrow range

Stan - 05 Apr 2016 16:39 - 20520 of 21973

Another down day please.

cynic - 05 Apr 2016 16:59 - 20521 of 21973

hope you're not barking at the moon :-)

Stan - 06 Apr 2016 08:29 - 20522 of 21973

Up in early trading, but will it last.

Stan - 06 Apr 2016 21:49 - 20523 of 21973

Yes it did, Ex divi tomorrow and as we are on a bit of an up and down ride I expect a down day.

Claret Dragon - 07 Apr 2016 11:56 - 20524 of 21973

Had a few quıck trades recently. Not much compared to earlıer thıs year. Mostly short after a good run up on Dow. Out quıte sharply when ıt looks lıke reversıng. Try and stıck wıth thıs for now. Market Gods have been kınd to me recently. For how long who knows.

cynic - 07 Apr 2016 11:58 - 20525 of 21973

both dow and ftse now look as though they want to head south but(a) there doesn't seem huge conviction in the move and (b) we have seen this several times in the recent past with both just as suddenly reversing - eg yesterday

Claret Dragon - 07 Apr 2016 15:43 - 20526 of 21973

Dow gone South

cynic - 07 Apr 2016 15:59 - 20527 of 21973

it did so yesterday and then recovered sharply
DOW is now just a tad below yesterday's low point

Stan - 11 Apr 2016 08:12 - 20528 of 21973

Week starts with a bit of a reversal so far.

Stan - 11 Apr 2016 14:22 - 20529 of 21973

Should get a lift forwards as the Dow looks like opening up.

jimmy b - 11 Apr 2016 14:38 - 20530 of 21973

Everything else up but the FTSE doesn't want to know.

Claret Dragon - 12 Apr 2016 11:30 - 20531 of 21973

FTSE just treadıng water now for a few sessıons.

Chris Carson - 12 Apr 2016 11:47 - 20532 of 21973

Can't seem to break 6200. Gold has had a wee pull back this morn seems to have it's own agenda not the usual stocks down gold up, seems to fluctuate. Keeping an eye on Dollar Index (June) chart, continued weak dollar would be good for gold.

cynic - 12 Apr 2016 14:14 - 20533 of 21973

just appeared on bloomberg .....

IMF Warns of Global Stagnation, Cuts Growth Outlook Again

Stan - 12 Apr 2016 14:19 - 20534 of 21973

IMF stating the obvious but Dow futures not changed so far.

cynic - 12 Apr 2016 14:20 - 20535 of 21973

more to the point surely, is the question of why do the markets seem to be blind?

Stan - 12 Apr 2016 14:21 - 20536 of 21973

Don't forget they look about 6 months ahead.
