FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Yep, sold PMO this morning and ready to sell PDL, though letting that one run for the moment. Even my POG holding is in profit, though not enough to get excited about!.......am nearly ready for the slump you promised!!!! ;o)

Stan - 21 Apr 2016 08:41 - 20580 of 21973

Yes JB. but I have already shorted the index (showing a loss so far) which is a bit disappointing but this rather odd continued rise cannot last I would have thought.

I agree ,to much uncertainty around .

Stan - 21 Apr 2016 08:55 - 20582 of 21973

Keep having to remind ourselves that the market doesn't usually go up or down in straight lines.. if it does then somethings not right.

Claret Dragon - 21 Apr 2016 09:03 - 20583 of 21973

Reckon we wıll see new hıghs on Dow and S&P500. Plenty of noıse about ıt ın medıa that does not cover ıt usually. Then the sell off begıns. Just my take. VIX has sıezed up.

cynic - 21 Apr 2016 17:11 - 20584 of 21973

S&P
currently on decent support line at 2095, so worth keeping an eye on that to determine where we may be headed tomorrow

FTSE
if that comes under pressure and breaks down with impetus through 6340, then further south could be on the cards

Stan - 21 Apr 2016 23:47 - 20585 of 21973

Dow finished down 114pts is this the start of the market downturn for the summer? to early to tell of course.

Stan - 22 Apr 2016 09:56 - 20586 of 21973

Following on from last night's dip over there.

HARRYCAT - 22 Apr 2016 10:05 - 20587 of 21973

Yep, though seems like just a 'down day' rather than the abyss.

cynic - 22 Apr 2016 10:18 - 20588 of 21973

FTSE
be aware that 6340 has been broken sharply

S&P
this is also below a decent support at 2095

cynic - 22 Apr 2016 11:29 - 20589 of 21973

Claret Dragon - 22 Apr 2016 18:09 - 20590 of 21973

Dow below 18000, for how long I am not sure. Hope everyone had a decent week.

Off down the Battle Cruiser.

Stan - 22 Apr 2016 22:12 - 20591 of 21973

Dow finishes up.. just.

cynic - 25 Apr 2016 14:43 - 20592 of 21973

WTB
finals due tomorrow
watch for fallout as it may present a buying opportunity ...... sp currently close to 25/50 dma levels (3855)

=================

BOO
finals due tomorrow, but though sp has had a very good run, i reckon the numbers are likley to be good, so selling ahead could be dangerous

=================

BATS
trading statement due tomorrow
am hoping for good things, but have no feeling as to what will happen to sp

Stan - 25 Apr 2016 15:09 - 20593 of 21973

A nice little reverse as the Dow starts up for me.

cynic - 25 Apr 2016 15:12 - 20594 of 21973

going long either DOW or FTSE looks a brave move

Stan - 26 Apr 2016 21:31 - 20595 of 21973

Another nothing day on either market.

Claret Dragon - 28 Apr 2016 07:53 - 20596 of 21973

What has spooked early on wıth Dow futures?

Stan - 28 Apr 2016 08:18 - 20597 of 21973

Take your pick from this lot CD, Oil still on the up though.

FTSE set to retreat on open.
