scussy, the firewall will be running in the firmware inside the router. I don't know this particular router but normally you would type the address of your router into a browser (e.g. http://192.168.0.1 ), log in to the router and set up the firewall. Should be covered in the manual :-)) It will be worth however checking the manufacturer's website for a new version of the firmware before you start.

Spaceman - 27 Aug 2004 11:49 - 2059 of 11003

scussy, k has already answered this and I put some more in the other thread. You may well find that the firewall is on by default .http://www.adslguide.org is normally a good site to check for info on particular routers

Some of you with long memories will remember I had a problem displaying stockwatch and level 2, as well as some other sites. Well, everything is now sorted after various emails with medion but I had to do a complete reinstall of everything to get there!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help :-)

Nearly a month since the last post on here. We must all be a right load of PC experts. :-)

My reason for posting? I wondered if anyone had bought the 19" TFT Monitor from Aldi at 299 recently, and if so, I wanted to ask "Are they any good? If so, could you recommend one?"

I read a bit about them here:

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?, etc, etc

Following a computer breakdown,I recently had a new computer built by a friend, and installed Symantec Internet Security 2004. Since commission I have been unable to view streaming sharts on MAM. I had 2001 on the old machine and never had this problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Roger.

After my recent rebuild, almost everything is working well but I can't get my laptop speakers to work at all so I must have lost the sound driver somewhere along the line.

I am running Windows XP on a Tosh Satellite.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

DocProc - 18 Sep 2004 08:11 - 2068 of 11003

&lt-------

This might be the driver you require:

support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/windows_servicepacks/win-xp-sp1/sound-xp-613102152forwxpsp1-en.zip

I had that problem with my Tosh laptop you have to download a new soundcard driver from the Toshiba site.

Greystone - 18 Sep 2004 13:30 - 2071 of 11003

Thanks Optimist, I'll take a look. G.

PS It is so nice and quiet here just now I wonder if it is a good move anyway. ;-)

What's a wild tangent web driver?

Optimist - 18 Sep 2004 16:09 - 2073 of 11003

chocolat - 18 Sep 2004 16:31 - 2074 of 11003

Thanks!
Now, how do I get rid of it?

Optimist - 18 Sep 2004 17:53 - 2075 of 11003

Chocolat

If you do a Google search for "wild tangent web driver uninstall" it brings up quite a few links but nothing that looks like a one click solution.

It appears that it can sometimes be removed using Add/Remove programs so you should check there first.

Some people regard it as a hijack so it is worth running Spybot S&D to see if it recognises it.

chocolat - 18 Sep 2004 18:16 - 2076 of 11003

Cheers Optimist - I ran Spybot and that's how I found it - it's been pretty busy since Wednesday, when it appears to have installed itself in the start-up menu. Hmm, it threw up 37 bits of spyware in total...but I've just installed adaware, and it found another 300 of the darlings. Oh, and I tried to zap the wild thing with the add/remove thingy, but it won't budge. :(

Optimist - 18 Sep 2004 19:19 - 2077 of 11003

Chocolat

It may be that Adaware is detecting a load of cookies which you may not want to remove.

Spybot should tell you the location ond name of the file. If you then run MSConfig (Start Button - Run - type msconfig) you should be able to trace and then dissable the start up command. Reboot the computer and then try to uninstall it.

If this works, you may still have problems with it re-installing itself so keep running Spybot.
